If you could be put in charge, as the CEO for a year of any large company that effects the internet marketing industry as a whole, which company would it be, and what changes would you make for the better of the company and/or the industry itself?
Without picking a particular company, there's a few things I'd try to accomplish regardless of what company I'm in.
First I'd to establish better communication between the publishers and the advertisers. This interaction might spawn better representation of products, which in turn would lead to higher sales numbers.
For companies like CJ, provide stock photography and product documentation for developers to incorporate into their site. In other words, the company whose advertisement is used should be encouraged to contribute to the development of the site as well. The better the page looks, the better the product is portrayed, the more likely visitors are to visit the related ads.
Provide site development tools. Encourage developers to experiment with ad placement.
I wouldn't mind being put in a position to effect change (not necessarily as CEO) for any text ad company. I have some new interesting technology I'm working on that might put a smile on merchants' faces
CJ. I'd call my most successful 100 affiliates and actually listen to them and their needs and change policy to reflect that so they are helped in their goals which ultimately will help the bottom line of the company
I think it would have to be somebody like ask.com. Currently a minority player in the search game, it would be rather fun to find niches that you can beat google, yahoo and msn at. I think they are trying that with their blog and feed search features. I would expand and focus on their Binoculars feature, for me if the site looks spammy or whatnot I dont visit.
