You definitely have never been to a gaming conference...
We were at QuakeCon for a couple of days doing coverage for one of our sites. Now I know a lot of gamers myself, and they are all pretty normal, well-adjusted people. But I could not believe many of the people at this event. They were mostly very fluffy, it looked like they hadn't showered any time recently, and I didn't see a *single* cute girl (about 1 girl for every 100+ guys maybe).
You know it's bad when the signage around the event reminds you bathe and use deodorant.
These guys pretty much sum it up:
A guy built this Optimus Prime computer - he said he put about $18k into it. It was pretty cool, actually.
This was the BYOC room (bring your own computer). I couldn't get the whole room in one shot - it was HUGE.
I have tons of footage and interviews to go through, but I wanted to share the fun of the last few days.
Laura
PS. I love gamers and am not poking fun - I just couldn't help but think this event was an abnormally eclectic and interesting group.
