I think it's time to quit my job.

I've been working in the car biz now for about 12 years...unfortunately for one of the domestic brands that rhymes with "riceler" doing corporate & fleet sales. As you could probably guess, business has been sucking ass for a while now, I make about $6500 a month where 18 months ago I was making $10-$15K a month. I work an hour from home which is also wearing me out. It sounds like I'm going to have to start working Saturdays now, which I haven't done in 10 years. All my accounts are M-F so wasting my Saturday in the office where my phone doesn't ring is just stupid.

On the flip side, I'm consistently making $7000+ with all of my AM ventures. ( I realize that's not exactly baller status), but have no doubts that's going to continue to increase with as much effort as I devote to it. So I think I've made up my mind to leave the car biz behind, and move on to the world of working for myself and just strictly do affiliate marketing. It seems like a big jump, but fuck it. I don't give a shit what everyone says about the economy...there's plenty of money to be made out there, and I just want a small little piece of it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Sounds like as good a time as any to make the leap. Good luck to you man, it appears that you have your shit together enough that it will be a success.

P.S. just out of curiousity how long have you been doing AM?

Yea, I just like to keep my tin foil hat on when it comes to making HUGE financial decisions, and I like the think of all of the possibilities. Your AM business can get fucked overnight, so be prepared if something bad happens.

AM isnt going anywhere, there will always be advertising and people making a killing. Just roll with the punches and have many irons in the fire and network like a MF.

That, and learn to email as a backup. :-)

Original thought needed here: Do affiliate marketing from the office while you're sitting around with nothing to do. If that's not possible, I agree you could do better at home and relate to the commuting blues you experience. Someone else who needs the job will be thrilled to have it.

I'm way ahead of you on that. Work is so slow right now that I spend most of the day working on my sites and campaigns.

I've worked with the same 2 partners for over 10 years now and our team has been the number 1 fleet sales department on the west coast for Chrysler, Jeep & Dodge sales going on 10 years now. There's not enough $$ to go around lately, so they'll just split up what I was making I'm sure.

Let me tell you, 5 years ago, we were fucking killing it. When the Chrysler 300 first came out, we were selling so many of those to to big fleet and company car accounts. I was making $20K a month there for a while. Those were the days.

I'd love to get back to 20K a month with AM...just need to keep working my ass off.

For those who say you can't do affiliate marketing forever are crazy. As you make money diversify it. Buy some real-estate, start another long-term AM project, turn one of your sites into something selling your own physical products like an online store, the possibilities are endless. People will always be buying things so therefore they will need people to sell it to them.

The people saying it wont last forever are the guys who have had a google PPC campaign and thats all they ever learned to do. The smart guys didnt sit back and watch the money roll in with one campaign, they took what they learned and ventured into other niches, and verticals, and horizontals, and diagonals, if you get my drift.

Sure, AM is going to get harder, the creative and the hard working will always flourish in it.
