Hi everyone,

I have a tangible product geared to the bodybuilding/supps/nutrition/fitness space. Don't want to post the link here (not sure if allowed). Just have some questions about how to go about getting the product started with affiliates and what the best route to take is.

Our product sells for a lower price point than most products in this industry: $10 monthly recurring.

Some questions:
- Is a $5-$8 per referral a high enough price point to get serious affiliates pushing our product?
- What's the best way to go about getting top affiliates interested in promoting our product? Affiliates who have distribution in the fitness space?

Any help is appreciated. If it is OK to post the link please let me know.

Figure out your average rebill retention and pay out say 50%-60% of that CPA to affiliates. You probably have 5months+ average right? So you could put your CPA for affiliates at around $15 which can be high enough if your offer page converts reasonably well.

If by referral, you mean sale, $5-8 isn't even close.

I understand you're trying to make sure you b/e in the first month, but having a lower price than your competitors doesn't mean that affiliates will be able to sell that much more of your product to justify a lower payout.

My guess is you would need $25/CPA to really attract any affiliates that are worth your time...and even that may not be able to do it.

Your concept is interesting, but I don't know if it's set up right to really make affiliates a major part of your marketing.

I like the idea, but the payout price just isn't enticing.

It's a huge niche online and its full of competition. Depending on where the affiliates buy traffic they would have to have some very high conversion rates to make it even remotely worth it.

have you promoted this yourself yet? The reason you are able to come in at 10 dollars and others are higher recurring is because you haven't actually budgeted in how much it is to market this product.

I get the concept and know a couple friends who own subscription sample models in other industries...

they were able to secure VC funding with some minor growth and projections... you should really try to promote this yourself to figure out the LTV's and how much each sign up is really worth.

Shoot for 100 to 500 subscriptions

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We launched last week and already have major brands working with us and have paying customers (25-30). We will be featured on a number of blogs and publications as well. We are also running a promotion soon.

I was looking to align this product more so with the super affiliates who have huge email lists (maybe they sell fitness programs, weight loss stuff etc) and our product could be part of their distribution without competing. What if we were to pay $10 a signup and $1 recurring a month or something?

Step pixel on 2nd page - collecting user information (as a lead) this pixel would fire of a lower payout. If the user completes a sale the 2nd step pixel would fire giving the affiliate a higher rate. This gives them a chance to earn some sort of bounty for driving traffic. Not too many tracking systems have the capability to do this but I know one :). You'd obviously want to cut off sources that are not converting at an acceptable rate. Also this give you the opp to email or close the deal with email or a call center.

So when you say $5 -$8 are you saying per month or only on the first payment? I find it hard to believe you would be paying $8 a month on a $10 product.

What's his username?

We are doing a campaign on a FB page next week that has over 700k likes (fitness babes)

uhm, I don't think he is reading this forum.

He's talking about a product owner. Truth about abs. Google it and hustle him.

Assuming you are sticking with $8.

Go to alexa or some other service and search for body building. Set critirea 10,000 - 1,000,000. Copy all the sites' addresses to a notepad. Get their contact info. Get an email template, explaining everything about your offer and asking them to mail it to their subscribers and/or make an article, with aff link and/or spamming fb, twitter, tumblr. Make what you are suggesting appealing. Spend time on the copy. Don't just type it. Send it to them. Repeat for other relevant keywords.

Also go to clickbank and paydotcom and other places like that, see some big sellers and big sellers in the past. Go to their pages and get their contact info. Pitch them to do upsell on their info product with yours. And the guys that used to sell well - try to get them mailing for you.

Maybe you could pitch some affiliates who push real nutra to do an upsell for you too, but I don't know about that, but you could definitely try it. Maybe reach out to some aff networks that specialize in the field and tell them to ask their affiliate if they are interested in upselling your product.

Just make sure to have a killer landing page. Like explaining everything very short and urging the visitor to take action. Make sure they know they are getting an awesome deal.

Maybe go to some forums and see if you can open up a promotion thread(paid or free), maybe give away "first month free for a review" for the first 10 people to register.

Make your site/offer easy shareble, like incentivize people to post it on fb/tumblr/blog/whatever. Maybe something like "Refer a friend, get one month for free" or something like that. Figure it out. It's awesome idea, that shit can go viral pretty quickly.

Also, definitely do that two step pixel. It will be more appealing to affiliates. Watch your stats very carefully though!

You can use mail and/or retargeting to get lost clients.

With your current setup it's very hard to convince affiliates who buy advertising to push your offer. The payout is just very low. You got it right with targeting affiliates who have lists. Their costs for promoting will be very little, but you should aim for other affiliates who will have very low cost of promotion too.

I gave you a few ideas. Work on them. When you figure your revenue per user and know your shit, you will be able to launch through networks/inhouse affiliate program.

Hustle!

Great post thank you!

i wouldn't bother talking to geary (truth about abs) about this, he doesn't really push the supplements you're promoting, he's way more about natural products
