I built a social feed aggregator (AllTop meets Reddit) - HubFrenzy.com

Very cool site Dchuck. Super clean and a ton of info jammed into the site. It would be cool if you pulled the whole article instead of just the excerpt so you don't have to leave the site. Any plans on monetizing the site? You could really take this site (or one like it) in a lot of directions beyond the AM world that could blow up your traffic.

yeah, the tough part with sites like this, is if you look at someone like reddit (come on, this site is just like reddit), 1% of their visitors actually have accounts, and of that 1%, only 1% actively participates on the site. So while they have like 20 million uniques a month or something crazy, their active userbase consists of like 20k users. You need HUGE scale to make things seem interesting.

I just don't have the time right now to set that up. I do spend an hour or two a week on the site though making small tweaks, so maybe one day once I exit some projects I can pick it up and push it to grow.

It's pretty smooth D, I hope it does well for you.

If you want some more top-notch feeds for the Internet Marketing hub, head over to imnewswatch.com and especially gurudaq.com. -Surprised no mention of John Cow/Chow, John Reese, Mike Filsame, Brad& Matt Callen & that whole crowd...

Any other Hubs? How about Libertarianism or one specifically for PPC/offers? (Since you have an SEO one.)

Best of luck with it!

ha don't hate, rails scaling is a non-issue, it comes down to a proper system architecture. nginx is lightweight as fuck, and I have rails processes capped to never exceed capacity. So it might crunch for a second but it should never crash.

want to make a bet it can crunch for more than a second :P

looks nice though gratz

Looks good, just a thought about the Sign Up / Sign In buttons - there's no statement of what benefit you get for signing up (unless it's just for demo purposes).

All of the content is there in front of you so there doesn't seem any apparent reason to sign up.

Cool site. Those other aggregator sites like affbuzz etc. are irritating, which is why I never use them. Looks like I'm not the only one.

I actually came across another similar site the other day at IM Today - Curated Internet Marketing News & Discussion

This one is updated daily and has some solid content. I've been using it every day and I love it. I think yours needs more content like this other one...

Internet Marketing Newest Posts - HubFrenzy

I need to add more feeds, but there's a newest tab for each section where you can see recent posts

I browse sites like affbuzz.com and affdaily.com fairly frequently but I fucking hate the way they organize content on them, it doesn't make sense to clump stuff together like that. So a few weeks back, I set out to finally build a social site (I've kind of always wanted to do it) that pulled in rss feeds but then had an interface like Reddit where you can vote on things and then a time decay algorithm ranks the best content each day. After about 15 hours of coding, I managed to built out and deploy HubFrenzy.com and am pretty happy with it currently.

It's built on Ruby on Rails running behind nginx on a 512mb Linode (will probably crash as users grow, I'll have to upgrade the setup at some point). I used Twitter Bootstrap to template the site really quickly without having to really worry about design or slicing and dicing. I used a bunch of ruby gems to bootstrap functionality quickly including Devise, Feedzirra, Ancestry, and ThumbsUp (and a few others but meh). I have a list going of stuff I want to keep adding and tweaking on the site, but for now I'm happy with it. I do plan on adding the ability to submit a feed to get added to the site, just haven't gotten to that as well. For now, if you have an idea for a Hub and a few feeds you want to see in it, let me know with a PM and I'll get it setup over the weekend.

I've populated it with a few good hubs I figured this crowd would be interested in, so jump in there and start voting and commenting. Hopefully this will be a good alternative to the AffBuzz.com style layout I've grown to loathe.

As if I'm not indebted to you enough already for your seo posts -- now I gotta hop on a Jet To the left-coast and fuckin blow you I guess.
