I am "severely" vitamin D deficient...

I was always wondering why milk at mcdonalds and other fast food places tastes so delicious.. It's becahse it's all vitamin D milk! Rejoice! Actually since that article linking lack of vit D to cancer I've been slamming a glass of vitamin D milk a day.

Just take a shitload of it. Whatever you don't use you'll just shit out. It's only harmful if you consume the whole bottle in a day or something. Or if you trust what's on the bottle you can take as many as what's recommended and a bit more (if you get little to no sunlight like me). Catalyn by Standard Process is a great option. I take 5 tablets per day. 3 tablets = 80% recommended daily amount of Vitamin D. It also has a lot more vitamins in it too.

Vitamin B, C, Yes.

Vitamin D, no.

I had the same thing except I go outside frequently. My level was ~13. After taking vitamin D 5 days a week for a month, it was brought my levels up to 27. Another month later it was like 42. After that, it was at 60. I'm suppose to keep taking vitamin D supplements because for some reason my skin just doesn't synthesize sunlight very well.

I usually spend 2-4 hours outside every day, so sometimes you just don't get enough from the sun.

My DR recommended I take one pill of vitamin D (10,000 i.u). a day for 5 days a week and then nothing on the weekends.. Go see your DRs and see what they recommend because it may be different.

I'm from Melbourne as well and take a walk along the Yarra (about 45mins) every morning before I start my day. Getting that morning sun really helped with my depression and motivation to make the most of each day.

As for supplements, I've read before that they're not the same as getting your v D direct from the sun but I have no clue either way.

Cmon people how hard is it to stay healthy and take a break outside every so often?

I ALWAYS go outside for 10 minutes and breathe in the fresh air as I'm having my cigarette break.

It's hard to get sun every day when it's pouring rain... we don't all live in tropical paradises. I tried to get some sun today, the most I could manage was about 5 minutes before the black clouds rolled in... not very consistent is it? supps are definitely the way to go until summer at least.

I was in the city all day and every time I looked out the window it was sunny. It was sunny all weekend too! I almost burnt my neck going cycling for a few hours.

Is your skin shedding? Especially on your palms and feet?
If you're not there yet don't worry about the vitamin D deficiency.
Also, if you do take it then make sure it's vitamin A combined with D2. Your body doesn't know how to retain vitamin D straight up.

Might want to ask about a body scan as well to make sure your bones are in good order unless the doc doesn't think it is to that stage yet. I took a high dose of prednisone for over 5 years before ever having one done and I had early signs of osteoporosis when it was done. My situation is a bit different but still, I have found that vitamin deficiencies can do damage to your body that you would never think of. So be careful and don't take it lightly.

I dunno. Sit outside and waste half an hour or pop a pill and waste half a minute? I definitely choose the pill. Time is money.

Seriously dude? If you're not willing to go outside for a half an hour a day (or even take a 30 minute break from making money) then I hate to tell you this but all the money in the world is not going to help you. You're already dead.

What in the hell are you making money for, if it's not so that you can spend more time in the sun? Some of you guys have lost total meaning.

Some of us hate the sun. I for one can't stand it. Though I'm almost to where I want to be in life. Once I get there I'll be able to spend 10+ hours per day outside if I want to. It's a good idea to use and abuse yourself when you're young and get to where you want to be as quickly as possible. Then you can take care of yourself when you're older and live the life you really want to. Of course by "young" I don't mean 30 or even 25. You don't want to be using and abusing yourself that late in life.

Here's my shameless plug. I do work for a company who provides direct to consumer lab testing and the prices are way cheaper than going to your physician. If you're in the States and have no insurance or have a high deductible plan you might want to check it out. Check out the Vitamin D Deficiency Test.

If you do plan on ordering something let me know. I can hook all the wickedfire peeps up with a coupon code to save some money.

You don't need testing. You should take 1000 IU of vitamin D every day that you don't get direct sunlight on your skin for at least 15 minutes. In the northern US and Canada, your body will not produce vitamin D from sunlight between october and april due to the angle of the sun, so take it every day.

There has been a huge amount of research in the past three years about the benefits of D and its role in the immune system. Try a 75% less chance of getting some cancers, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

If you only take 1 vitamin... make it D. Google it and see for yourself...
