its 2018 but email marketing is still alive and kicking. In fact it is the undisputed most powerful marketing strategy you can do for your business.
Take a look at email marketing again. i think you are missing something because it is the most useful way you can build a business online
It is better you build one yourself.
1.do your keyword research well
2. create a simple 1, 2 or 3 page report based on the keywords
3.setup a landing page and an optin form
4. ran paid ads(it is fast and reliable)
5.Within a few months you will have a highly targeted email list tied to your niche
Buying already built list has no guarantee as fas as i know
Mail is not a bad tool, depending on your kind of business, but I think email alone is not enough these days anymore, you should really go for seo if you want your business to grow.

Email marketing is almost always going to be one of the most profitable marketing (and monetization) channel for brands. There's a lot that goes along with it, however, and it can take years to build to a point where you have a sizable list. One of the best ways to quickly grow a list is to encourage (and perhaps reward) those for referring new subscribers. Just a thought.
