How to fix a messed up sleeping schedule?

I routinely fall into that same sleep schedule, I used to try and "fix" it by staying awake an entire night and day then sleeping at ~midnight.

But you've got to think about why you're body or work habits lead you there, for me its because I'm most productive between 11:00pm and 7:00am. There are no distractions.

Those days that I do get up at ~9:00am I don't end up getting much work done - there's just too much to do outside the house, or too many distractions at the coffee shop.

I say keep your schedule, grind during the night hours if thats what works for you.

I have a similar sleep schedule to you atm - go to bed 5-6, get up at 2ish. The way I'm fixing it at the moment is rather than sudden jumps, going to bed about an hour earlier every couple of days, and when I wake up, if I'm not in the mood to jump out of bed in the first ten seconds, I have a pack of caffeine pills on my bedside table - pop 2 (equal to a cup of moderately strong coffee) and I'm not gonna be able to get back to sleep again easily.

Find yourself someone with a 4-year-old and offer to babysit for a week. That will get you up in the mornings. Mine never lets me sleep in very late, regardless of what time I go to sleep.

I've gone through this many times over the past few years and I know exactly how it feels like.

The most effective way to fix this is to FORCE yourself to GO OUT at
6am. Bring your laptop and go work at a coffee shop or something until 6pm or whatever. Do not stay at home.

Simple fix for me - just skip sleeping for a night and don't take a nap the next day. ONLY go to sleep at night at the time you want to normally go to sleep i.e. 11pm - 12am

Last night I managed to get really tired by 2 AM, and I got up at 10 AM.

Now it's 12:46 AM and once again not tired at all. Ahhhh...

I think I'm just going to go to sleep whenever I get tired (even at worst, it will still be before 9 AM) and get up at 9 AM no matter what, every morning. If I only get 2 hours of sleep...then too bad. Eventually I should start getting tired early on a consistent basis.

Just do it. Set your alarm clock at the time you want to get up, then get up at that time even if you don't want to and even if you're tired throughout the day. Do this repeatedly for as long as it takes.

Or you can do any number of techniques which just skirt around the main issue and accomplish it in a slower fashion; the main issue being *doing it*. Same concept with procrastinating doing work when you get down to it. You can do lots of 'tips, tricks, and techniques', but ultimately to get up earlier you have to get up earlier.

Yep this is basically the approach I'm taking. The hard thing is that when my alarm goes off and I'm only half awake, you could probably put Jessica Alba naked on top of me and I still wouldn't get up.

Whenever I need to reset my sleep cycle I just do some cardio, I'm not in the best shape so even running for a little bit gets me tired and exhausted enough to get to bed early and wake up at a normal time.

Go to bed at 10 and get up at 6 (or 7 if you need 9 hours).

Hours before midnight count more than hours after midnight (not sure if scientific though). And nothing better than getting up early, having a nice training session and then starting to work while everyone is still in bed being lazy.

When I stay up late I tend to do shit that is not productive at all.

I have weird sleeping habits as well. Some days I sleep 10pm-5am and other days I sleep noon to 8pm. Just depends on how involved in projects I am or how much client work I have that particular week. Sometimes I'm up for 24 hours or more straight.

The best way to "reset" yourself is to just STAY AWAKE. For example, let's say you wake up at 9pm. Just stay up until 11pm the next day. Trust me, you'll sleep. :)

I can't believe the complexity of answers in the thread... ludicrous. The solution is simple. You're going to get tired at around 6AM because that's what you're used to for the past number of days. Instead of sleeping until 3PM, set your alarm for 9AM. You'll get 3 hours of sleep, you'll be tired and feel like shit throughout the day, but you'll fall asleep earlier than 6AM the following day. After a few days, you'll be back to normal.

This is what worked for me, its hard as fuck to get up the first few days but its worth it.
