How To Edit Currency In Photoshop?

I'm trying to edit a fan of $20 notes for the dvd cover of a project I'm working on. I'm using an action script as well.

Somehow I can save the image in PS. But when I use the action script, I get told I'm not allowed to edit currency, and it wont produce the dvd cover.

How do I get around this? All I want to do is build the dvd cover, FFS. Any ideas?

PS: In before the 'I don't believe you' crew...

Thou shall not blaspheme the image of the mighty dollar.

I remember there were a couple of cracks for the older versions of Photoshop (think CS1) that were made specifically to circumvent the currency protection.

But it might be easier to just search Google for a dollar image that's close to what you want and use that.

I read your post 20 times and still couldn't figure out what your problem is, lol.
So you are saying that you got a fan of 20$. You want to edit it and then apply an action to generate a dvd mockup ? When you generate the dvd mockup it says you can't edit the currency ? No way.

Adobe has built a protection into their products which recognize money.
And it wont allow you edit it...

Basically, I'm trying to run an action script on an image that contains a partial pic of a $20 bill. But half way through the action script, a prompt pops up and says 'this application does not allow the editing of banknotes'.

WTF.

I can't use a standard image of the note, cos I need it on a dvd case, with the rest of my graphics. Serious roadblock, and completely stupid problem to have...

CS5 works ok.

(excuse the rubbish 20sec. edit)

Use a black/white/grey rectangle instead of the note. Place the actionscript, get your dvd case and edit the bill manually. You'll work at high resolution, so it shouldn't be a problem.
What layers does the action export ? You can use a smart object to fool the action steps.

No joke, this is what I'm going to have to do. The pain is that the final image is like a box set so has multiple manuals, cd's and dvd's all in the image. Yep you guessed it, ALL with the bloody cash images on them! But yes, thanks for this workaround man.

As for PS, I've been trying to figure out what exactly is triggering the currency detection. The note is mostly covered in my image so I'm like WTF.

I've come to the conclusion it's a mixture of:

1. A currency note being present which triggers a 2nd 'checking' system .
2. The aforementioned checking system which measures exactly how much of the note is showing through.

I ran a few checks with black blocks on the note in random places. One time, I had it working with the black blocks in place. Then I literally removed a smal sliver and allowed a tiny section of the PLAIN WHITE border of the note to show. And it suddenly gets flagged as currency. Trust me there are no marks in the white border in my image.

This leads me to believe that PS runs 2 scans. 1 to check whether any layer contains currency. And another to calculate just how much of the currency is showing through, under other layers.

One time I changed a specific blacked out part of the note from 100% opacity to 99% and this made the image get flagged as currency too. Bastards.

Anyways, I've already spent too much time on this today. Thanks for your replies people, appreciate it.

What's the action script for exactly? Is for rendering a 3D cover from one of those ebook/media covers/cases packages, or are you actually preparing a DVD cover for print?

Rendering a 3D cover for now, for concept art. I'll cross the actual printing bridge if/when the project requires it later on down the line... Cheers

OK, well, basically it's looking for the constellation pattern on the note. It's the same with scanners and photocopiers, they won't scan or copy money that they detect with the constellation pattern. The pattern is on lots of currency from all over the world.

EURion constellation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So pick a series of US 20s that doesn't have the pattern on it, ie. older notes, or try to remove the pattern from the note if possible before running the action script. You could try adjusting the brightness or run a slight blur on the image or use the clone tool to paint out the dots, if it will let you.

Or try this one... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/US_$20_Series_2006_Obverse.jpg

Edit, it looks like that pattern is only on series 2004 20s. Hence the 2006 note on Wiki doesn't have it. I just edited and ran a few action scripts on the image above without any problems.

Hmm, looking at that EURion wiki page, photoshop doesn't actually use EURion, it uses digital watermarks developed by Digimarc, which wouldn't have affected anything until ~ 1997. So any note before then, you should be fine.

I've heard about the constellation, but that's not the only check which is used (unless I'm missing something - see image below). That's too easily circumvented for any potential fraudster anyways.

Coincidentally, the 20 you posted is the exact one I'm using (same serial number).

Here's where it gets interesting:

- PS let's me drag and drop that same 20 image, into it.
- PS wont let me drag and drop the new 100 into it
- When that 20 is open in PS, a print screen and paste BACK into PS is flagged as currency (and pastes fine in to other applications)
- PS will let me save that 20 image and also save as jpg etc
- PS also flags the image below (at that resoloution), when I cut and paste it back into PS
- PS wont let me open the jpg image below, even though it just created it!

Also, the step where my action script is messing up is a cut and paste step!

WTF ADOBE!?!

EDIT: Yep, what Joe said is what I believe, also. Right pain in the ass.
