Have you ever spent alot of money to build a website and then make very little in return or just stop workin on the site and leave it to die.

I have to hire someone to build my sites because i can't do it myself. :o

So,how much money have you wasted on failed projects?

Many of my projects get developed, but don't turn out the way I want them to or to my liking, and they just sit there and do nothing. I actually have a few very custom myspace traffic type sites that are completely custom, and cost me over $800 each to have made and developed, and still, they do nothing because I don't promote sites that I don't like the final result.

Plenty in terms of time, but I havent spent much money out of pocket for them. But especially in the begining, I had quite a few sites that didnt work out. I dont consider them total losses though, because I was still able to learn and take something away from each project.

I'm nearly done with my first site in wich I invested money, 300 bucks for custom made HQ articles. I finally went through with it after reading Jon's apply KISS to your site article.
I've been developing sites for clients for years so there was no need to outsource there, I made the best site script ever for this site and I'm sure that if the site is promoted right (by me ) it will make good money.

The only money I've wasted so far is domains I've register/hosted that I dont use.... which is a small ammount! Haha...

I've spent just over $400 on domains in the last 2 months. Sold 4 domains for just over $100. The rest of the domains i plan on building into big money earning websites... well i hope they turn into big money earning websites.

The worst money I've ever spent was on domain appraisal. They told me a shit domain I had was worth over $12,000.

It cost me $50. Scam.

That's when I was still a newbie at this game.

Why would you spend $50 getting a domain appraisal on a shit domain? :S

that's lame, what kind of company what is it, that contacted you?

I've spend some money on the domains that are just waiting for their turn, but I'm more annoyed by the sites I invested my time in just to let them stay unfinished, falling out of inspiration and having to get back to the mindset all over again...

I have spent $700 for an adult site that was never delivered and the guy dissapeared on me. Im still mad over that one!

Ouch! This one must really burn...I've been thinking about buying sites, and avoiding stuff like that is my no.1 concern...

I spent a few hundo getting a directory site started that has gone nowhere... I still think it has potential, just need someone else to manage it so for now it sits around doing nothing

Not that bad I guess since I try the low outlay approach to business...

I do most of the development myself, so I don't waste all that much money on failed projects.

Even if you do it yourself,How much time have you spent on a project which has failed?

hehe, The biggest waste I've had is I bought a dedicated server for my very first site that only got like 3 uniques a day. It made it kinda difficult to make a profit for a little bit.
