How I failed as a business owner

Sorry to hear what this guy has done to you man. Hopefully people reading this will think twice before putting more money in this guy's pocket.

I know you're not looking to do a revenge DDOS because you said you couldn't afford it, but if you have a few hundred dollars, you can buy a DDOS service:

Like danke said, if he's fucking with your family's livelihood and this guy is beyond the reach of the law, then take the law into your own hands.

@OTWU I don't know why you see this as even partially your fault. This asshole has done the same thing before, he's done it now, and I bet he's going to do it again to the next competitor, so at least try to look into out-of-country agencies or try and find someone to DDoS this fucker for you.

I cant see how you fucked that guy up so bad he costs you your livelihood, I hope it works out for you and justice needs to be served.

Hi Deshea,

My site is still completely sandboxed due to the bullshit that happened over a month ago. The amount of profits we have lost due to either your or your teams incompetence makes it really hard for me to feel sympathy for you.

Even though the content has been deleted off of the wiki properties you put up, they are still being DOS'ed - which I am told is preventing the sites from being recrawled and reindexed without the content (so Google can see that the links are gone), and again (I am told) is holding us back from being unsandboxed.

So -- JEST, Nanexo, whatever your name is, I hope you understand that you are not only hurting Deshea with this DOS attack, but you are also hurting me, Pasha (as I have hired him to do my SEO), and other clients of Deshea as well. You are not just harming his livelihood, but the livelihood of others as well. I honestly don't really know the full details of the situation between you two, but please -- stop the DOS attack and move on. There's nothing for you to gain at this point -- you've won. Please move on.

jesus christ don't listen to anyone suggesting you should DDOS someone, that's not business. Revenge DDOS is still illegal.

Agreed.

Shoot me a PM when you get on skype, I can hook you up with my host. Already told them about the situation and they said they shouldn't have much of a problem.

Unless he lives in Iraq or maybe Libya or something, I find it hard to believe there are no legal routes you can take. Basically all developed and developing countries have laws against this. And if he's in a developing country, even better, because then there's a very good chance the country is corrupt and laws are so broad, they can mean whatever the hell the police want them to mean.

There is pretty much no legal route he could take at all.

What you encountered was not a DDOS, it was a DOS which can be stopped with a single command (just adding a firewall rule to drop all incoming packets from that particular IP). So, don't say you were "DDOS"ed, because you were just "DOS"ed

Even a kid can launch DOS using even a legal benchmarking tool such as Apache Benchmark

And obviously your competitor was also an IT retard as he launched it from his server IP

Something tells me if it's really that easy to stop it, somebody at his host would have done it.

You don't think that's the first thing they tried?

faceblogger - it started out as a dos. It migrated into over 100 megabits per second being used in bandwidth - it wasn't 1 ip any more.

mgtarheels - PMing you

seiux - We know your incident was an isolated incident where your articles got posted 3 times to each website. We tried to help by sending you 1k in damage for the sandboxing, and i don't know what else to say except i'm sincerely sorry. You and I both know that it wasn't done intentionally.

Block his host.
Block all the offending IPs.
Block his entire country.
and don't give up so easy because I know nobody will be buying anything from him anymore.

and FYI - you shouldn't be paying "damages" to someone. This sort of shit comes with the game. I've had stuff like that happen to me x 10 with no ill affects. How do you know it wasn't a Panda update shift?

Did all of that 070707. The server can't even boot up without bringing the entire network down. Spent 5k in security, a security specialist, additional hosting costs, server hardware, etc. So far, what we try spares the server a few days, before it completely takes the network down.

I appreciate the help though. I'm just gonna spin the entire day talking to hosting companies. Tough to find one that'll provide over 60 class c ips with ddos mitigation protection at a network level.

Not at all bro. This hosting did a great job in helping slow down the attacks. At the end of the day, there are some attacks you can't stop. This was one if them.

I don't know if I believe your story, why not just get a new host for now and contact your clients privately? You're not running an organization that depends on 'the server', you're selling people links. Let's not over-dramatize here.

IE what are you 'protecting'? Trying to get your domain up? Move on to a new domain and have your host capture the packets from the attack because with that info you can either make his life miserable enough to stop DDoSing you or give that info to the FBI and tell them to take action to protect their boss(you, as taxpayer)

Either way story sounds cooked up from a guy who sells people links. BRB repairing my servers! BRB my SERVERS are down, brb need to get my SERVER up. Just say your site's down -- and this shouldn't put a dent into your business since you just said that you do all of your marketing on WickedFire. So how is having your 'server'(website) down stopping you from delivering links/continuing on in business?
