How do you keep your computer clean from Malware?

If you get malware pretty much you don't understand or know how to use a computer. I run no virus scanner, no fire wall, windows xp. I NEVER get virus's or spyware.

Don't click "Yes" from shadey companies, don't run files from people you don't know, don't install crappy software, ect

Its no secret that digital pathogens are being created at a phenomenal rate - often much faster than we can keep up. I personally run the standard battery programs such as AVG antivirus, spybot, ad-aware, and spyware blaster. But honestly, I'm hardly conviced those are enough to keep out some of the more malicious stuff out there (Rootkits, keyloggers etc).

What programs do you guys run to keep out Malware?

The only software I use is Mac OS X.

Best of luck.

I use webroot spy sweeper. It's my favorite paid antivirus so far. It gives you popups when a program is being shady, but it's rare and not annoying. If you visit a site known for phishing yadda yadda it will tell you and block it by default, but you can override. Finds and quarantines whatever the hell the source of my suddenly slow computer everytime. It tends to remove a lot of pretty nonharmful cookies, but who likes cookies anyways.

So far Ive had it for about a year. 8,483 items blocked, 904 removed.

I have to say, since I moved my home pcs to linux, I have not had any problems (plus my old machines run faster than when they were new with MS).

I keep 1 of the older machines dual boot with windows & AVG on hand for those rare occasions I in windows dev work.

Don't get attached...

Keeping clean from malware

01. Don't get attached to your machine. Reinstall the OS about every 3 months.

02. Run a hardware firewall in addition to your software firewall. They are REALLY cheap on eBAy.

03. Go virtual. On a clean install, install VM ware and a couple of virtual machines and run your aps out of those. If one is compromised, switch to a backup.

04. Run Antivirus, Antimalware and a Process guarder as well

05. Put your hard drives in a removable tray. Have a backup drive in cae you main system is compromised.

Hope this helps

Michael
