How do you keep your computer clean from Malware?

Its no secret that digital pathogens are being created at a phenomenal rate - often much faster than we can keep up. I personally run the standard battery programs such as AVG antivirus, spybot, ad-aware, and spyware blaster. But honestly, I'm hardly conviced those are enough to keep out some of the more malicious stuff out there (Rootkits, keyloggers etc).

What programs do you guys run to keep out Malware?

These days its all about how intelligent you are over all.

Don't visit shady websites
Don't open exe's from your mother.
Don't install a program just to watch a nudie vid.
Don't download kazaa and other such programs.
Use an operating system other than windows (I love my mac)

Before I had a mac all I had was a zone alarm firewall on XP, no AV, and no spyware programs like spybot or adware. I never had a problem. Its not hard to keep the stuff off your computer, you just have to be smarter than a rock for the most part.
 
For scanning, I have AVG, No-Adware, and XoftSpy. For a while I had Nod32, but I let that go. It also doesn't hurt to have hijackthis when something needs immediate attention.
 
I been doing fine since making the Mac switch. If your still on a PC get acronis true image and make a back-up of a fresh install (after installing windows and your favorite software). Next time the stuff gets to bad do a restore since it can often be faster than cleaning the crap off.

Using AV and AS software goes without saying. Use Firefox with IE tab so you can still do windows updates every other day and visit sites requiring active-x.


When I've had spyware it never mattered how many programs I used, bulletproof, xysoft, adaware, etc the last one I ran always found something all the rest missed.
 
I tried installing Malware filters, but then everything I coded was deleted right away.

I am using A-squared and Nod32 have had no probs for 6 months also spybot and Xoftspy to clean, which like I said no probs yet.
I'd run CC everyday just for shits and giggles.
 
Another thing you have to do is turn off system restore in windows before running spybot, avg and your anti-virus program. Some variants take advantage of system restore and will not go away.

Another trick is to boot into safe mode to run spybot and adware, it runs faster.
 
On yet another note...

I find Antivir Personal Edition to be a naggy piece of shit.
An open-source alternative is clamwin.
Works fine and doesn't nag about.

I Use AVG most of the times. For scanning purposes i use CLAM Antivirus, its damn good at detecting virus, mallware and spywares...
 
I run scans maybe once a week. I never have any of these types of programs running all the time. I fucking hate them and anti-virus software is such a pain in the ass.
 
Maybe i've had good luck, or maybe i've been smart with shit.. but I think i've gotten only three viruses in the past 5 years. I use firefox, rarely run any anti-virus scans, and stay away from really shady sites. That's about it.
