Eat the Rich by PJ O'Rourke
You just need to read that book and you will understand that a lot of the conventional wisdom you read today (The US is doomed! China is the new #1) is just a bunch of crap.
The guy really knows what's happening. And he holds the 90% of people's answer.
Cut the military spending. 420k per active soldier is way too much. It's like the US government are schizophrenic, they've already got enough nukes to blow the world to pieces, yet still insist on spending 600 billion a year.
