I signed up with clickbank and i was given an affiliate link but the problem is that i do not know how to promote this link. Please can someone help me on how i can promote my affiliate link? Your suggestions will be appreciated.

buy ads at Make Money Online -- they even give you 50$ of free ad credit w/o a credit card (so you can keep signing up for free credits over and over)
That is true that many article directories will not accept articles if you just put your affiliate link in it. So you should have your own site. Then promote the site investigation, which in turn, promote affiliate links. You should go to Squidoo.com and create a lens (the same web page) where you can write and advise on different products. Here you can put your affiliate link.
Stand on a busy corner with a sign and your affiliate link written on it. Type in traffic should be off the charts.

I had the same problem early on. Not knowing where to promote and what audience to target. There are a lot of helpful sites that teach different ways to market to your target audience. I have found article marketing to be the easiest , although it does take some time to see results...and it's free...I would not recommend in paid campaigns ex.. pay per click or banner swaps..if you do not know what your doing you can drop a fortune.

Search the terms "paid traffic","adwords","facebook ads","myspace ads","adcenter" if you have some money to play with.Research as much as you can and when you think you learned all,research more.Then you can start losing some money.If you don't have a cash flow,search "article marketing","seo","backlinks" and read,act,read,act.
