I've been searchin on WF for ages, so here goes my question.

I'm working with MediaTraffic and bidding on urls.

I scrape urls and throw them into MT. The prob is, if I scrape a lot of urls, I spend a crap load of cash before I find the profitable urls. Even then, they are barely profitable. And competition are bidding the prices up too (as I bid on them).

And if I only throw in a few urls, it'll take me forever to make some decent $$.

I'm reaching for $67 a day net profit. Small goals to you guys, I know man. But I'm gonna get there somehow. And it'll mean the world to me when I do.

Can you give me a few pointers please? My specific questions:

1. How do I find profitable urls which make decent returns a day without blowing all my cash?

2. Is TrafficVance a better network to try?

3. How much do you spend in general PPV to find a profitable url (specify which network you are on if you like)?

Really appreciate your help. Thanks.

1. It takes money to find profitable urls there is no other way around that other than prediction and chance. I assume you are tracking everything, if you aren't you are just pissing your money away.

2. From my experience TV traffic converts better than other ppv networks. I believe this is due to their display frequencies, ads showing less often to the user therefore more engagement.

3. Impossible to answer. Every campaign is different, targets/urls per campaign vary, no way to bring that to a finite number. I've spent thousands and thousands to weed out non performing targets.

I am tracking with prosper, so I've pulled a couple of urls which have been making a small amount of money. But they make $ soooo slowly. This was with MediaTraffic though.

Should I scrape a lot of urls then throw them in all together? Or work with smaller groups of urls?

And when scraping, should I use really targetted keywords (4+ search terms) to generate the urls or just use shorter broader search terms to generate the urls?

Anyone pls?

Talk to you reps at your cpv networks ask them questions what generating the most volume etc etc.

1. Set low daily spends. You don't need a lot of traffic to know if it converts. Run the numbers and see what the lowest amount of $$ you need to spend to see if it has potential or not.

2. TrafficVance has more targeting options as mentioned. You can bulk import ads. Good one-on-one support and fast approvals. Minimum deposit is $1k.

3. Run the numbers. If you are direct linking to a CPA offer, typically you will have sufficient data if you double the CPA and spend that much worth of traffic on it.

Some tips:
1. Don't direct link to long form, long sales copies, or anything that requires credit card information on the first page. You'll want to look out for offers that are short-forms & straight-to-the-point.

2. Be creative. Remember that people will only check out your ad for a brief second (unless they close it right away) so draw them in some how.

3. Utilize targeting and day parting. Certain hours of the day and certain sites just won't convert at all. It's weird but that's how PPV works. Gather data in your tracker and run reports by the hour to see which hours are most profitable (and which days).

4. Conversion tracking makes life easier. Instead of trying to reference subids to URLs, campaigns & targeting options - send the conversion pixel to your aff manager at the network you are running with to measure results.

you definitely want to be bidding on keywords or URLs that have some decent volume or it won't be worth your time. Accept a lower ROI on higher volume instead of a higher return on low volume.

Thanks for the tips so far. This is great info and is helping me, so thank you for that.

I'm also wondering:

1. With cpv/ppv linking, should I be linking directly to the offer or using landing pages? I'm currently using basic landing pages so that they fit in the popover window size (landing page = simple header, pic, benefits, call to action etc).

2. For those who have ported campaigns over from Zango/MediaTraffic to TrafficVance:

I understand the PPV audiences are different for each network. So if I'm about to start with TrafficVance, should I add all my scraped urls in when starting off? Or should I just start with the profitable ones?

Thanks for your help guys.

1. Depends what kind of offer it is; a short form, or one field you can directly link to it assuming it fits in the popup. I've haven't had a lot of success on cost per sale or anything that involves a credit card on ppv, a few have worked and that would most likely require a presale lp. This is a trial and error and creativity thing, test both and see what works better for you. I have used landing pages with geotargeted text, wild images, whatever can get approved that will bump your CTR up to the next page if the original direct link doesn't work. The window size constraint is hard to deal with for some direct linking, unless the network/advertiser lets you use an iframe to readjust the dimensions and forms so they fit.

2. That's your call, if you can afford to see if non performing targets on one platform may work for another then go for it, but if you can't use the ones that are working for you now. You may run into the reverse problem where some of your targets that are working now don't work in TV.

Also, I second sgtryans suggestion of dayparting. With ppv this happens in almost all of my campaigns(some get strong right around noon, some don't convert at all at noon or in the afternoon, campaign specific) and since most of the platforms have dayparting and per hour distribution, make use of it.

Thanks guys.

I think MT don't have dayparting right? But the others do. Thanks for the tip, I'm tracking with Prosper so hopefully I can find the hours in the day where sales are made.

Will also test out the iframe idea - so far Ive been using basic landing pages, but will experiment with some that are a little wilder!
