Healthcare bill requires posting of calories

Disclosure is good. Obviously some places already comply with pamphlets available at the counter. Some restaurants do not comply.

What the fuck is rocket science about this?

dude its the end of the united states of america. goodbye freedom, hello 1984 communist cuba.

Hell, if the government wants people to know what calories they consume, they should just hand out a woman to each guy going into a restaurant.

Every woman by the age of ten knows the calories in anything. So says my wife, her sister, her mother, and all her friends. They start dieting before they're teens because society tells them they're all fat bitches, even when they're skinny as a rail. Ten year olds dieting? Very normal.

Me, I'm scrawny anyway, so I have to eat more if I don't want to look like a twig. The wife, she works out and eats a modest Mediterraneeeeon (spelling has just left my brain for the moment, apologies) style diet - salads, cheeses, olive oils, butter, fresh meat, some fish, mostly all veggies and proteins and no carbs. Carbs do so much to fuck up with your blood sugar, it isn't funny.

Of course, we're still a couple of drunks who enjoy a bottle of wine together each night, but hey, it keeps the blood pressure down.

we've had this in europe for years. maybe this is why your the fattest nation on earth heh?

good move. it helps to know what your eating.

You want to stop people from eating at mcdonals? Make fun of them, call them a fatass and make it like smoking, people who smoked were mocked, yelled at, made fun of and now look. Nobody smokes anymore, and if they do they are not doing it in public.

The reason i said mcdonals because they are the fast food joint everybody thinks of when we talk about fast food. No fast food chain comes even close.

Last if you regulate it wont fix the problem, it will hurt small business, also if you put that on the boards, whats next? Are they going to make them tell you what your eating?

Also if consumers want it then they will get it. All they care about is making money, if consumers want healthy foods thats what they will get. They want shitty foods thats what they will get.

I don't always agree with him but I watched this last night and was pretty blown away.

I have to do some of my own research because I don't trust today's documentaries to be unbiased like a documentary should be. But a lot of this documentary showed made a lot of sense.

The premise of the documentary isn't that eating fast food is fine and doesn't cause obesity. It discusses how the government following its own agenda told us what was healthy and what wasn't. Specifically the food pyramid and how we should eat 6-11 servings of grains a day and saturated fats are bad. It also showed how the CSPI said beef fat was bad and fast food and restaurants should switch it out with vegetable fats to cook their food. Then when we found out how trans fat was bad and they contradicted themselves.

The argument is how in just the few decades we have completely changed how we ate for thousands of years. This includes the government telling us what was good and what was bad. Even though we ate animal meat (high in saturated fat) it became bad and now we should eat low fat and more grains. These grains are high in carbs which essentially are shocking our systems.

The dude ate fast food for 28 days but was still watching his calorie intake (he kept it at 2000 a day and walked 6 days a week). Much to the surprise of his doctor he lost 12.5 pounds, lowered his bad cholesterol, and raised his good cholesterol in the process. He also ate way more saturated fat then was recommended in the process. He did another 30 day diet right at the end that cut out sugar and carbs. He still ate lots of bacon, eggs, butter, heavy cream, etc. After this was done he lowered his cholesterol even more and said he felt great.

Also, it talked about how everyone said cholesterol was the cause of heart disease when, in fact, it is inflammation. This included marketing cholesterol pills to women which according to multiple MD's saying women shouldn't take cholesterol pills because it really doesn't matter how high their cholesterol gets.

Basically, which I don't know if I agree with 100 percent, the guy is saying people can make their own damn decisions. Requiring calories being displayed on that triple monster cheese and bacon burger isn't going to stop that many people who want to eat it anyway. I think the majority of the population fits this. But, you still have the idiots who fall for the rebills and can't make decisions on their own.

I think having the nutrition info on the menu may be a bit excessive (at least making it a federal law is excessive). If you have pamphlets next to the cash register may be enough for most people to figure out themselves.

The RDA's for everything is bullshit yes. I am an advocate of the Paleo diet, which means no grains(cause imflammation), no milk, no extra sugar. I eat mostly lean meats, nuts, seeds, fruits, veggies, and eggs. Gives me(about 210 lbs) about 250-300g of protein a day, 120g of fat, and around 75-100g carbs a day. Never felt stronger, faster, and leaner in my life.

People are less likely to be smoking due to the crazy cost of it now vs how it was a few years ago. Teasing smokers does about jack shit.

My grandma died at 56 from smoking, do i care, no, because for years we asked her to stop and she didnt. You have to be an adult.

Why does wicked fire sit and not make people accountable for their actions. Im on WF and you people wont agree that its a persons fault, not a businesses, another persons, government ect.

Education my ass, you have plenty of options to learn about this, such as...

-Health classes in highschool, and in college
-You can find the Calories & health information online, on the wrapper of your big mac, pamphlets ect. It isnt hidden from plain view!
-Friends, Family, Mentors ect.
-Its in the news all the time, its not like this is the first ime you have heard about fast food being bad

Fuck people who dont agree, and who make excusses. Im sick of it, all people do is ask for a handout, for a world of security while they hand over their liberity ect.

WHERE ARE THE WF MEMBER WHO RIPPED MY ASS, ALL I SEE ARE THE LIBERAL WF MEMBERS WTF.

I was thinking about this the other day. More on a philosophical level than a fad diet thing. I mean for around 2.5 million years the homo genus life forms had diets consisting of nuts, seeds, some meat and whatever veggies/fruits they could find. Only for the last 10 thousand years have homo sapiens been able to vary their food selections. Is that really enough time for our systems to evolve enough to be able to digest this foreign diet?

It will get to the point where you will also have a caloric total when get your check, including a relative tax based on the number in your party and your consumption level.

This is something I'm actually FOR. most of the dumb fucking shit in the health bill is total fuckin garbage. But a "YOUR A FUCKING FAT ASS, GET IT IN CHECK DUMBO" tax is EXACTLY what this fucking country needs. Obesity, Overweight, Diabeties (read obesity since 80% of diabetics are fucking obese) are the LARGEST strain on healthcare in this country. More than smokers. More than drunks. More than smokers and drunks combined even. So now that we all HAVE to pay for everyone elses god damned healthcare even when we are healthy ourselves... I'd love to see the fat fucks causing the draw on my bank account to have to pay a little extra.

I realize Im in a forum of computer nerds (who can tend to be a little hefty by stereotype) so if I've offended some of you. Oh well. For those of you with a medical reason ignore what I just said. For those of you who can't keep away from the drivethru and are repulsed by gyms.. knock it the fuck off. Sick of paying for that shit.

// end rant

wrong. Clearly you are not now nore never have been a smoker. Being a smoker these days is a pain in the fucking ass. Employers can just simply not hire you if you smoke at all.. even outside of work. Every fucking time you light up some asshat says "thats bad for me" or asks you to move because they don't want to get your second hand smoke. Yeah we were all cocky about it in the beginning and were like "get fucked" but now most of us smokers have just given the fuck up. Tired of not being able to get work. Tired of being fucked with every where we go. cigarettes being 6 dollars a pack vs 3 dollars a pack didn't impact me one fucking bit. Being harassed all the fucking time and losing work did. Now I do one of those electronic cigarette jobies and I can tell you it wasn't for the health benefits it was so I could be left the fuck alone ;-).

Start not hiring people who are fat watch how quick fuckers start losing weight. Oh but with our current laws thats discrimination... but the smoking thing isnt. Explain that shit to me.

sorry for the tripple post I missed the editing window on the one above because of a phone call. here is the rest of that line of thought:

When smoking was "cool" everyone did it. When it stopped being cool less people did and the ones that do are embarassed about it. Damned near every smoker you meet will say "im trying to quit". lol. The problem with america is its become socially acceptable to be overweight. We've literally tipped the scales so bad that fat chicks can now put "average body type" in on social websites and NOT be lying because FAT IS AVERAGE here. Tell you what make it open season on making fun of fat people. Put up billboards like the do for smoking. Run commercials. Have clubs that wont let people in that pass a certain BMI. Have designated fat areas at airports. Disallow being fat at bars. triple prices on fatty foods like icecream. Stop making clothing readily available for overweight people. Make them have to special order it. Seriously make people embarrassed about it. Watch what happens.

I'll say this: I haven't been back to McDonald's since they started putting the nutritional info on the packages. It freaks me out to see just how nasty that food really is.

EXACTLY!! Our bodies just aren't able to process wheat, dairy, HFCS and all that other shit. Our DNA is evolved to thrive off of a lot of meat, nuts, seeds, veggies, a little fruit, and intense exercise.

aha was just thinking about this the other day, doubt it'll ever happen though.

I havent ate mcdonals in years. I go to port of subs, or subway.

Can there be a Wickedfire STS section for just the people who like being adults and don't want the government controlling EVERY single detail of their life (especially their business)? I think the four of us who enjoy our freedom would really like that.

99% of you other fuckers get mad when the FTC cracks down on the way you deceptively lure in leads because the completely "legit" way hurts your conversions. Then you praise the government for forcing restaurants to do something that hurts their conversions. That is the definition of a sheep right there. You don't even understand the underlying principles of what you think your beliefs are.

I am 100% for mandatory posting of calorie information. Here's just a dumb example.

A year or so ago I was in the financial district of San Fran - so I went out to lunch with a client to the local chain restaurant because the lines were long everywhere else.

I avoided everything bad - so I thought - and got the salad with grilled chicken and raw veggies with the dressing on the side. The dressing was listed as a vinagrette.

I ate about 1/2 the dressing and the whole salad. I get back to the office and look up the calorie info online.

I literally would have been better off getting a Whopper at BK. The salad had 2,000+ calories and a shiat-load of saturated fat in the so-called "vinagrette" dressing.
