Green Lantern - Why??????

200 million? That's insane.

I write movie reviews for a newspaper, and I gave that movie 2/5 stars because I've grown sick of all the crap Hollywood has been churning out lately.

Like, do we actually need a movie for every single superhero ever created? Ridiculous.

Superhero movies are fine, but when they scrape the barrel its getting a bit pathetic. What's next, The Green Toothbrush?

(couldn't find a pic with an actual green toothbrush on a shirt and was too lazy to photoshop one :) )

For the past 10 years or so, I've found myself gradually steering more and more away from the avg. cookie-cutter Hollywood hero-movie. Except for Dark Knight, which was good - IMO most of the hero movies and Harry Potter stuff is just for kids anyway. Maybe it's a sign I'm getting older (lol) but I have a hard time finding them entertaining at all. I probably would have like them when I was 17 though. My buddy (he's 37) the other day said "dude, did you see the last Harry Potter movie? I felt like it was made for kids and teenagers".... lol.. I'm like YA THINK?!?! Really? What's with all the 30-40+ people running out to see these over-hyped, over-produced movies made for teens and kids anyway. (I'm not talking about good animated features like "Up" and "Toy Story 3". There is some great, universal cinema in those whether you're 10, 40, or 80).

Some of the best movies I have seen in recent years have had <$100k budgets and they were incredible. Sad part is, the masses would have enjoyed them too - but marketing a movie to that level takes serious moolah.

As to the $200 mill. It's just proof that more money != more quality. It does mean more exposure though. As long as it's profitable, the studio doesn't care. It's a business. They would make a $1 billion movie if they could, as long as they knew it could turn a healthy profit.

It's basically the same in the music industry. It is generally not talent that makes "stars" out of artists. It's whoever the record companies with big $$$ decides to promote heavily (based on what "the market wants" at the time) until exposure alone makes them popular enough to milk and profit for a while. Most of the true talent gets left behind and/or unheard.

Fuckin A!

Batman, Spiderman, and a couple of other Superhero flicks that came out once in awhile was fine, but these days it's gotten ridiculous. Hollywood's refusal to take any kind of chance with original material has made me stop going to the movies altogether.

At least in the 90's there was an independent market where some great little films came out of like Swingers, City of God, Cube, etc. Now even the independent market is being cut out.

Why are there a fucking million movies about superheroes and aliens? Because that's the easiest shit to sell to not just America, but around the world. Alien films play as well in New Delhi as they do in the States. That's pretty much the only original material Hollywood is interested in these days because they know it will sell.

That's an unfortunate fact.

Best thing anyone can do to help put in end to this crap is to stop going to the damn movies to watch this crap.

I also firmly believe that this "ripping the soul" from films actually fuels the pirate downloading of movies as it breads apathy towards the filmmakers and also that people are not willing to spend money on going to the movies or renting movies that may be of low quality. I am not saying it is happening on a film by film basis, but more an overall trend.

Hack, I've gotta be honest with you; Your material has gone downhill a tad bit. :(

Just because Learningcurve is pumping out 10 boob threads for every one of yours nowadays doesn't mean you have to throw in the towel like this... Competition is in everyone's best interest.
