Hi all,

I'd need some advice. Got some ideas about sites with (more or less) unique content and got people to gather it. They'd be gathering the content using excel and there'd be some images involved as well.

My problem would be efficient delivery of the content. I only know basic php and not much experience with wordpress, joomla and such. I can write in VB or such program to create static html pages based on csv (exported from excel) files but obviously the right thing would be to have the content in mysql database and deliver it through php custom scripts.

What do you do in such cases? Do you use some standard cms or write your own custom backend (or you hire someone to write it) or something else - perhaps there's solution in between, mysql+php database/script builder?

Someone told me that what I need is fairly simple and that the best thing to do would be to learn php and mysql and write my own backends. But let me first see with you if there're easier solutions ;)

I can guarantee you'll get better results, faster, using Joomla or WP than trying to learn SQL & PHP on your own. Spend an afternoon working on either and you can pick it up pretty quick.
A buddy started experimenting with WP. His sum website knowledge was "Websites are HTML right ?".. over a weekend even he got something put together, running and selling.

Why re-invent the wheel ?

Yes, thank you for your input, I also think I should definitely give those popular cm systems a chance
