Got Cheap Clicks - Now What?

I've noticed that Internet Marketing is a lot like playing Hot and Cold as a little kid.

When someone goes, "Shhh!"...that seems to mean "You're getting warmer....WARMER."

OK, Day 1.

Only had time to make one campaign last night. It's geared toward females (16 - 24yo) on Content Network.

I made 5 highly focused adgroups each with about 200 KW. Started my bids at $0.15 just to get them rolling.

15,000 impressions, 1 click. It didn't get started until pretty late though.

I might use scheduling to turn it on around 3pm (when school ends) and kill it again around midnight...although, who knows, drunk chicks might convert.

Stay tuned.

I should clarify, "Day 1" means day 1 of this particular experiment. I've been doing PPC for a month or two now.

Now, I'm trying for the fun part....make money.

The ad's not running right now but will be this afternoon. I'll update later.

OK, so far today...

48,000 impressions

16 clicks

8 went through to the offer page

0 leads

Too soon to worry. Only paying $0.06 per click anyway. Enter your stupid cell phone number you little bastards.

Holy shitballs. I might be onto something here.

(Yes I know my CTR sucks....don't care...it's working)...

So far today...

100 clicks

2 leads genereated

Total spent = $6.09

Earnings = $30.00

Profit = $23.91 so far! :D

As Curly said in "City Slickers"...

"Day ain't over yet!"

I've heard numerous times that when you start running an offer some networks will give you a free lead at the beginning to make you think the offer converts extremely well.

Really? Well, that's pretty shitty.

I actually got 3 leads yesterday for a total of $45 and spent $6.

Today, spent $10 and made $0.

I was getting excited damn it.

Do you have any tips on how to find cheap clicks on google? I'm trying a few things on their content network as well but, I usually don't promote on google due to how strict they are and I've heard even on the content network it takes a while for your campaign to take off? Then that means it's going to take time to find cheap clicks right?

Do you just use trial and error? Whatever you think of just start a campaign and see what price you get your clicks at? If so, how long does that take, does Google take some time in determining your click rate?

I'm getting pretty low clicks for dating...avg. CPC is .08 but not converting...kw's are dating related, but no one wants to bite...bastards. At one point this made me $400/ day...now it makes me $15/day while spending $20...not a happy camper here.

I've never seen anyone say that before. I sure hope it's not true, and I don't think it is. That being said, with the last three campaigns I started that had payments $8-12, I've had a conversion within my first 5 clicks, and then nothing in the next 200. Having good luck in the $3-5 range though.

It's definitely true.

I had one network give me 3 $8 leads right off the bat for a campaign. I got all 3 before I probably had even 5 clicks. Needless to say it was not an amazing converter. I knew from the start they were fake leads cause all of a sudden my earnings went from $0 to $24 in a second..

Day 3.

On the advice of a guru / buddy of mine, I changed the targeting of my ad last night to avoid the accidental overseas clicks.

Very smart move in the long run but I seem to be in 'review hell'. The ad should have gone live at 1pm EST. It's almost 5pm with 0 impressions.

My quest to eliminate the day job continues. The mortgage business really sucks right now...even moreso with a family.

I'm wondering if I should be focusing on a more sustainable long-term business model (besides ringtones...or even PPC, although many have made a career of it).

They way I do it is start out with a shit ton of keywords, and then narrow it down and throw away all of the ones that don't convert. Finally you are left with some pretty dang good keywords that you can put into their own adgoups and scale.
