GoPro, an incredible success story

My wife bought me one for our anniversary last week. I had been looking at them for some time but wasn't ready to pull the trigger yet.

I used to do a lot of underwater photography and videography. The downside has always been the cost of underwater housings. A decent underwater housing even for a relatively cheap DSLR camera runs about $1200. For video, housing a $200 video camera will run you about the same.

GoPro's $300 solution, small size (traditional underwater housings are huge), and 1080p quality make it a total no-brainer. My huge-ass underwater video housing is going on eBay next weekend.

Plus you can have all kinds of fun with it. I've been looking around for a mount so I can put it on my dog and get a dog's eye view of the world :-)

I see a lot of them when I go on motorcycle rides. Really popular among riders for capturing fun times on the twisty bits or having someone follow you with one and work out where you can improve your riding skills.

Lol I was just thinking about this today. I have a greyhound and a whippet and thought about letting them go wild/full speed at the dog park with gopro's on them.

When I used to dive (which was admittedly over 6 years ago now), a HD camera plus housing good for 60m set you back around 6 to 8 grand. $400 is a steal...

We mounted one to our german shepherd. She was swimming / climbing the mountains, so we just put on a dog life jacket and then configured a way to mount it so the camera didn't move much unless the camera hit a branch or something. The videos were pretty neat, I'll have to look for them soon.

Almost feels like a "was in the right place at the right time"

Now its mainstream, saw some HD ones at local shop recently
