Google acquires Meebo -- will morph into G+

Google acquired Meebo today for $100M

Gonna shove social down our throats whether people want it or not, lol.

Second, we’ve learned that the product team will be using its expertise to help build out publisher tools for Google+. We don’t know if this means there’ll be some sort of new Google+ toolbar coming. But, presumably the existing Meebo properties will be morphed into G+ or otherwise closed.

Weird move, might just be defensive so FB doesn't buy it and integrate IMing across other platforms. Meebo mobile hasn't been updated in years.

According to reports, Meebo had already raised about $70M in funding so that would have weighed heavily on the acquisition price.
