Good CTR template anyone?

I don't know if CTR has to do more with the template design or the topic. Using the same template, I have some topics doing consistently 70% and higher, and some doing 15% or less.
I'm using basically a big-text banner in a colored block across the top (fixed width, about 700 pixels) with the name of the topic, then a couple of paragraphs of text underneath, with a google block floated to the left in a div, either a wide tower or a large rect, depending how much text I have.

I guess this is where newbs get the impression there is something like a "miracle bullet" for this type of thing.
All the experienced people spout "There is no such thing, we could share EVERYTHING, but it is ONLY hard work... " at every opportunity.
When it comes to push and shove you'll only hear "Hey, I got 50% CTR, I am doing so great" but nothing is shared of that... uuuuuhhhh, scary, secret knowledge?

I try to share a lot. Which is not much about aff marketing, though I do know my way around HTML, search engines, usabilty and other topics of interest.

Huh? I just looked at the top 10 sites on ABL, and I didn't see anything resembling the type of arbi site everyone is talking about here. They're all search engine/scraper sites.
dude look at the ones using adsense...because that's the program we are using..
all of them put the big square blocks on top of their scraped content.

Mike, I didn't want your CTR rate to get messed up, so I just spent the last hour or so clicking on your ads non-stop. No need to thank me.
I looked past the homepage - I saw a whole lot of search scraping, affiliate offers, "best price" deals, and way more "content" than a simple arbi page should have. I guess I'll look again...
WAZ - quit now, don't waiste your money! lol damn - there are at least 4 in the top 10 that are straight arbitrage. not only that but stop trying to learn everything before getting started
