Gmail spam

I keep getting these spam mails that has bits of a story or something in it.. wtf is up with that and it doesn't look like they are promoting anything

My college email address gets at least 10 of these emails a day. It's rather annoying.

After several years I still get zero spam to my personal email address. My Spam folder in gmail is completely empty all the time.

Mine used to be empty then I joined a google groups (for less then 24 hours). By default they post your email address in your replies... I went from zip to 1000's a week. I changed my profile to not display it... then I removed all my posts and unsubscribed. Still I get 1000s a week. Very annoying... I suppose I can only blame myslef for not checking more carefully.

I have noticed I get SPAM with gmail that is not addressed to me. Its a similar address but not my address. Do you suppose they are routing to the closest match?

I think thye are trying to trip the filters so companies have to lighten up. ie: thye have normal text being marked as spam in attempt ot get you to mark it as spam which may cause real mail to be flagged as spam unless they lighten up...

A way to surpass Spam Filters.

Bayesian Spam Filtering is great, but a normal text can't be filtered easily or else it'd filter everything.
