I worked in automotive (in an engineering firm) for many years. There is plenty of money to be had if you're very good. Take it from someone who has been there.You have to be an executive with little to no engineering experience. The engineers don't make their fair share. On the other hand, "tons of money" is relative.

Your fair share is what the market will pay you. If you don't make enough, you aren't worth much.
I'm bringing my car in next month to the dealer for a week to be fixed up. I have a few small dings here and there that I would like to be taken care off. Get it back to mint.
I don't look at things like that. This ends up being a bigger inconvenience than just the extra money. Taking time out of my day to have it fixed forces me out of my business hours, which equates to much more than the rim themselves.
