Fuck southeast asia: anyone in Mexico, south or central america?

Thanks for the info. Will take you up on the additional questions. What are you getting about 10-12 hours of daylight every day there?

Hit me up anytime. And yes, we get about 11 hours of daylight right now. Pretty much from 7am to 6pm. But its sunny every single day from sunup to sundown.. It doesn't rain here.

+Repped.

I'm in the same boat. I want to see the world/live abroad for awhile and would like to hear about some alternatives to SE Asia.

I just checked the local CL. 2BR fully furnished condo, 2 minutes from the beach, looks nice from pics - $525/month sound about right?

I'm guessing a lot of tourists are in the area?

How's diving/surfing/hiking, etc? Fun stuff to do outdoors?

How are the visas in Mexico, pretty easy to just hop down there for 6 months to a year with no headaches?

As far as weekend getaways, I know you're on the end of the peninsula, any cool islands/other stuff in the area?

Thanks!

Yup, that sounds about right.. I've seen places available, 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom for about $350/month. It just depends on your tastes. There is lots of cool shit here to see. There are tons of beaches and there are also a lot of reefs, so the diving is pretty good, snorkeling is great and there are some kickass hiking trails and atv trails as well. Also, if you like to fish.. Cabo is aweosme for that. Surfing is about 20-30 minutes away, in San Jose del Cabo.

There are tons of tourists here. When you're downtown you pretty much see 90% tourists, not counting the locals who work there. For the visa, I'm Canadian so when I arrive to the airport in Mexico I get a 6 month tourist visa. If I want to stay longer, I just have to leave the country for 72 hours, head to Belize or the US, whatever, and come back. You're then good again for another 6 months (at least for Canadians)

For weekend getaways, I believe there is a ferry to Mazatlan. You can also go to Todos Santos, which I haven't visited yet but heard awesome things about and plan on going there soon. And pretty much grab a flight out to anywhere else in Mexico.. I haven't been to Cozumel yet but its supposed to be amazing.

Mexico? You fucking kidding me? Don't you see what's happening with all the foreigners disappearing, getting raped and killed? Sure you'll be safe if you hang out in your little "gated communities", but fuck what kind of life is that? if I go spend a few years somewhere I'd rather be in a place where I can walk freely, anywhere and anytime of the day or night. ESPECIALLY if you're going with your wife and/or kids.

OP: Pop a Zopiclone pill and take the 15 hour plane ride to Asia son. You won't regret it. Plus women are hotter and cost of living is way cheaper. Asia kills South America in pretty much every department. :cool2:

Yes. Mexico. I've been to Thailand. Its a cool place.. but lets be honest, it also has its downs. Thai is also a lot harder to learn than spanish. And until you speak thai, you'll generally always be treated as an outsider. Now dont get me wrong.. I liked Thailand, but I would prefer not to live there.

Oh and Thailand is far as fuck. It took me like 24 hours to get there with the layovers and everything. Atleast in Mexico, there are direct flights to Vancouver for $500/return and it takes 4 hours or so. It's nice being closer to home, rather than half way around the world. And people dont just "disappear" here unless you're a fucking junkie or you're a retard. It's like anywhere.. use common sense. This is not a border town, and crime is actually quite low. I haven't felt threatened once in 2 months. I actually had more shit go down in Thailand in a month than I have here in all the times I've been here to Mexico.

If I was headed to South America, I'd probably go far south. ..... Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, etc.

A buddy of mine moved Costa Rica to Uruguay. He lived there through the winter and threw in the towel, said it got really cold. Moved up to Florianopolis, Brazil, and talks quite highly of it. Friendly people, safe, etc. Brazil is almost the same size as the USA (excluding Alaska, PR, Hawaii) all the crap you hear about there is in the big cities. They have wealthy provinces / states like in the US.

I like Costa Rica, I've lived here for a long time. Cost of living has certainly reached an all time high, but if that doesn't really bother you, you could live comfortably for $3K - $3.5K a month (depends how much you spend on Entertainment).

"It's nice being closer to home, rather than half way around the world."

Well there's your problem. Make it your home and then it's not half way around the world.

My girlfriend has never lived outside of Canada. So we didn't want to be 24 hours from "home". I also speak fluent Spanish from living in Costa Rica all those years.. so why waste it? Thai is next to impossible to learn to read/write. I'd rather be in a country where I can understand what people are saying about me.

Was just in Cabo and La Paz and liked both areas, awesome diving and fishing. Trying to go back for a month this fall. Interested in living there.

I guess BigWill really likes Mexico..

I think BigWill is just giving us a demo of how stupid, immature, and retarded this whole "like" thing is. At least the whole rep system is fairly hidden, but this bloody thing gets shoved in your face everytime you open a thread.

By the way OP there's a reason they give you Free Wine on most long haul flights... it thins your blood... disregard the stroke my nigga, acquire Asia.
