So I spent 11 hours at the courthouse along with 75 other jurors
and it was awesome, NOT!

Oh yeah, I got paid $6 for the days work. Gotta be a record day
for me :)

Sooooo glad I was not one of the 14 picked to serve the rest of
the trial (5-8 days, 8 hours/day)


that is all....
 


my dad was almost selected for a court case that would take months. it had to do with some terror plot around here in jersey. it was a pretty big deal. news and all. he was at some final interview and i told him to make a slightly racist joke as if it were nothing. he didnt tell me what he said, but he wasnt there for long.
 
Next time show up in stained wife beater tanktop with your hair all fucked up. Mumble to yourself constantly and randomly twitch your neck like a crack fiend.

This will drastically lower the chances of them picking you.

I would think having your dick hanging out would be enough... but I like your idea, less chance of being arrested in the process.

Speaking of being arrested on jury duty, there was a guy (I think DC not sure), who upon returning to the court house from lunch, put his pot baggie and some other stuff like a pipe in the tray before stepping thru the metal detector. Turns out he was also a convicted felon so the record been updated so that he'd never serve jury duty ever again in his life time.

Course if he was smart he could have bought up the felon mention during the summon if he didn't want to be there, but seeing as how he put his shit into the tray in front of officers, I don't think he was that bright.

In the business we're in though - can't you get out of it? I know I'm going to try lol. Just tell them that going to jury duty would have a major impact on your income because without you - your business doesn't run.

Unfortunately not. It's your "civic obligation". Works out well when you have an employer but when you're the boss... not so much.
 
^^ Just send the thing back in and write in the spot on the back that you own your own business, which is commission based and if you're not working, you make no money. It's called the financial hardship claim. They can't make you serve if it means you can't put food on the table. I've been commissioned sales all my life, and haven't had that excuse fail yet. In fact I just used it here in California about a month ago. It's no lie, if I ain't workin, I can't pay the billz. Give it a try.
 
I tried to get excused because I'm self employed -- no go.

So I just answered all questions in a manner that made both sides not want me.

I'm all for capital punishment. Don't like the 3 stikes law. Thinks drugs should be legal.

I don't trust the police but feel that most crimes don't carry a long enough sentence.

I have strong feelings about racial crime but usually feel they get a bad rap just for being a minority.

I'm not sure I feel comfortable judging someone and/or making decisions that affect others.

It's worked 3 times now.

(beyond the fact that I look young, am white, and rarely is that what they want on a jury)

I did do a 3 day stint of jury duty back when I was 19. Fell asleep each day. The crap sure isn't as exciting as it is on T.V. :)

I live in a small state with a lot of crime -- so we probably get called on more often then most.
 
I believe that if you tell them you believe in the principle of jury nullification, they won't let you participate.

What most people don't know, is that the jurors are allowed to judge not only the evidence, but the law being applied. Judges inform the jury about the law, but usually neglect to inform about the power of the jury to nullify bad law.

The entire common law notion of a trial jury by your peers is to protect you from being tried for an unjust law.

Heh, I completely forgotten bout Jury Nullification and I've heard bout it least 4 times last year.
 
It is incredibly important. It is a check on out of control government.

But in this context, it can get people out of fulfilling a role they do not want to play.
