FTC Halts Deceptive Practices of Marketer Who Collected $359 Million

I think this was one of his landers, but I could be mistaken.

What? So he'd be worse by not donating to various charities?

I am not saying that he is not a bad guy and did bad things but the money he spent and gave to charities did not somehow make him more of a bad guy. Is it impossible for someone to run offers like that and genuinely want to give back to the community? Bad people can do good things without doing them for the wrong reasons.

John Gotti used to put on a great 4th of July fireworks show for the kids in his neighborhood in Queens.

''He's got a good heart,'' said Sal Ceffali, who had brought his wife and two grandsons. ''He's always good to the kids.''

''He takes care of people in the community,'' added his wife, Sally. ''You're not afraid to walk around at night.''

"Some complained about the large number of police officers at their traditional celebration. ''I don't know why we need all these cops,'' said one resident who lives across the street from the hunting club and asked that his name not be used. ''There have never been riots or fights.'' $400 in donated toys. $3k to get the press release on the wires. lol

"Ignore his fuck ups and pay attention to his testing methods and landing pages."

Exactly. Who did he hire for his copywriting lol.

He had a lot of different copywriters, just small guys, no big names. They actually didn't get paid a lot. I believe around $4k/mo to slam out as much copy as they could.

I think the method was something like this:
1. Pump out as much copy as possible using 4-6 different copywriters.
2. Pick the good shit (anything worthy of a test) and throw 90% of it away.
3. Test it to try and beat control.
4. Repeat

Also, it was always A/B testing. No multivariate, I'm assuming he tested both and found a higher yield from sticking with just A/B. Thats why a lot of people would complain about his offers going up and down in terms of conversions when he would test something drastic. Testing was a system he built into the business, it wasn't something that he did for a week and then stopped which is what made him so successful.
