Sack up huh? Haha. You guys are friggin hilarious. Yes, because now that we're online we can just steal, cheat, and fuck other people over right? Yes, I know I'm at a huge disadvantage trying to be in this business but not sacrifice my integrity and morals, but that's just who I am and I'm not willing to leech off others to gain success.

If this wasn't all online and partially anonymous, most of you wouldn't dare steal from others. Sack up? You're all hiding behind your screens hoping to make it big off other people's work... yeah, if that's sacking up, please cut off my balls right now.

Just because it's easier to get away with things online (stealing designs, stealing music, whatever), doesn't mean it's right. If you think I'm being all "holier than though", well, no shit.

Haha have you ever in your life used a template? What is the difference? Nothing. You just gave a few pennies for a site that has already been used 100-10000 times. You have a domain name with a company or product name in it? Hmm, Thats stealing. You dont own the trademark of that product or the copyright.

Want my address? I dont hide behind shit. You defineitely are in the wrong fucking forums to be preaching your gospel. But then again you have never paid for site submissions to SE's or Directories or bought a link of course because that would be considered blackhat and would go against your fucking morals.

doesn't google just steal everybody's content anyway? they take snippets of your copy, compile it with other snippets from other sites, throw it together and then charge people to advertise on it.

nobody seems to complain about that.

it's a dog-eat-dog world out there. sack up ladies.

Yup. They do the same thing for Google News as well. Most of it is just RSS syndicated stuff from other news sources.

I think they can do it because it is under "fair use" meaning they can copy as long as you use only a vague percentage of the copyrighted material.

This is why I see nothing wrong with copying a site as long as you make significant modifications to it.

The question is: what is significant?

To make one thing clear at first, I don't steal html code anyway. Btw, after the first website with
HTML:
<body>
no other website can use that code because it's copyrigted and would be illegal to use. How about
HTML:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>something</title>
</head>

<body>
</body>
</html>
Ooooh no. And if we add some divs into that <body> tag
<div id="div1"><div id="div2"></div></div>
<div id="div3"></div>
<div id="div4"></div>
Ohhh noo please don't use this code it's copyrighted to me!
Get the idea yet? This is too simple to be copyrighted.

Nice try DanNicol, but that BS logic don't work. tmoney actually said to save somebody else's web layout/design to your own computer and use that straight (whether or not he was being sarcastic is anybody's guess). That is called stealing. No matter what you think, or what you say, it is stealing somebody else's work. It is illegal and immoral.

Now, it sounds like what you are saying DanNicol is that looking at something and being inspired by it and then incorporating similar elements on your site is the same. Well, sorry, but no they are not the same. If I look at a site and like the colors they use then go ahead and incorportate similar colors in my site, that's completely acceptable. If I see somebody using gradients on their posts for a blog and decide to try my own gradients on mine because of it, that's not stealing either.

However, if I go view the source, copy the exact HTML, save out the images and CSS file, then just replace the content with my own... well... that's bullshit. The lack of morals most people on this forum demonstrate is damn depressing.

I wouldn't worry about it mate.

Hell, back in 98 that's how I started.... right-click > view-source was a lifeline to me!

But yeah, totally understand what you're saying about inspiration through imitation though.

Then one day it just clicks, and you no longer have to look at everyone else's stuff
