Former Canadian minister Paul Hellyer claims 'Aliens already walk among us '

Why wouldn't the aliens just show themselves on our tv channels and warn us that we were destroying our planet.

Because it'd be like us trying to explain to a bunch of lemurs how they can better their lives.

And I don't think anyone has to explain to us that we're destroying our planet. It's pretty obvious. We've raped the planet to the point that Americans even get actual winters now, and name them scary things like, "Polar Vortex".

Why wouldn't the aliens just show themselves on our tv channels and warn us that we were destroying our planet.

Because that would be as useless as trying to tell the ants in your ant farm what to do. If there really are intelligent aliens out there taking the time to watch over us then we are most likely part of some experiment or study.

Either that or they are much more intelligent than us and have not made contact for some reason that our tiny brains can not even fathom.

It's best to just sit back and enjoy the ride.

If there were aliens, what agency would cover it up? Military maybe? Who was that high ranking Russian that said something similar last year?

If there is any truth to it, expect a smear campaign in the media. The other possibility that may lend some credibility would be complete media silence.

You really believe this?

Every 2 - 3 months for the past 5 - 10 years there's been a record breaking weather event somewhere in the world. Year after year, record breaking highs / lows around the world. natural disasters like nothing seen before, etc. Do you think that's natural?

Yes, I believe us humans are fucking up the planet, and mother nature is now pissed off. There was a certain natural balance that existed for millions / billions of years, then we came in, and fucked it all up in the span of about 800 years. Us humans are good at that.

How do you know anything that has happened over the time the earth has existed? How do you know we are not simply in some 1,000 year cycle or even 10,000 year cycle?

ITT a bunch of people that think so little of everyone. Maybe the Aliens would come around and be like the Twighlight Zone episode - A Small talent For War.

Is that Stark? Am I going to be handed my head? Or is it that I am an idiot like Stark? Or did I miss the point entirely?

Samples taken from ice glaciers have given us a pretty good indication we're not just in a normal cycle.

Anyway, I'll stop there, and get back to work. Discussing climate change with someone is like trying to convince a devout religious individual there is no God. It's just pointless.

Has polar ice accumulation been directly observed, or is it an implied theory?

If science is the direct observation of events, then peering back a thousand years without directly observing anything can cause problems. Just in the past year, a half dozen things concerning evolution have been re-written that were once thought impossibilities.

Not at all.

And just Google for satellite images from today and 30 years ago. It's pretty apparent.

PS. Sorry, my brother is an environmental biologist, and we've had more than one whiskey over the years about the future of humanity and the Earth.

It's shit like that, which make people think evolution is false, should be banned from schools, and creationism taught instead.

I guess once you`ve been retired for 25 years you can either be bored to death, or engage in large-scale trolling to keep yourself entertained.

ITT, aliens -> global climate change

Also, of course the climate is changing, it has been for as long as we have record. The problem is that there was once a hooplah over "global warming", which transitioned in to "global climate change" because it became apparent that the world was not necessarily warming as initially feared.

How much satellite polar data do we have , 30 maybe 40 years? The earth is how many billion years old, and yet scientists can say with near certainty they can pinpoint the problem to a extraordinarily small amount of co2 in the atmosphere?

Was your brother one who signed onto the theory of snow-less winters when it was brought before the UN 10 or so years ago as a unavoidable fact?

I think this guy is just fucking with all of us because he's old and he can.

That's my plan too. The older I get, the more I'll test what I can get away with. The prospect of half the population thinking I'm suffering/enjoying dementia while the other half buying my stories hook, line, and sinker is really the only thing that makes growing old seem tolerable.

If science is the direct observation of events,

"The primary function of science is to demonstrate the existence of phenomena that cannot be observed directly. Science is not needed to show us things we can see with our own eyes. Direct observation is not only unnecessary in science; direct observation is in fact usually impossible for the things that really matter. In fact, the most important discoveries of science have only be inferred via indirect observation. Familiar examples of unobservable scientific discoveries are atoms, electrons, viruses, bacteria, germs, radio-waves, X-rays, ultraviolet light, energy, entropy, enthalpy, solar fusion, genes, protein enzymes, and the DNA double-helix. The round earth was not observed directly by humans until 1961, yet this counterintuitive concept had been considered a scientific fact for over 2000 years."

Pictures are nice (especially for the layman), but more total information in this case can actually be got from the very old ice core samples.

The problem is that there was once a hooplah over "global warming", which transitioned in to "global climate change" because it became apparent that the world was not necessarily warming as initially feared.

Oh look, it's this myth again. :cool2:

The main group leading the "hooplah" is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and they were established in 1988. On their wiki page there is a 5 sentence summary about their upcoming 2014 report and it contains the word "warming" 3 times.

"There have long been claims that some unspecificed "they" has "changed the name from 'global warming' to 'climate change'". In reality, the two terms mean different things, have both been used for decades, and the only individual to have specifically advocated changing the name in this fashion is a global warming 'skeptic'."

Now I know what all these "women" dressed in black hiding their faces are around London.
