He is - THE CACTUS!
So I was reading the New York Times and came across this:
Google and Yahoo to Search Inside Flash Files - NYTimes.com

Adobe's gotten together with Yahoo & Google to figure out how to make Flash more easily read by bots for pertinent info.
Looks like Flash landing pages will be all the rage in the coming months.
(which means I'm screwed, because our biggest direct competitor went Flash for most of their LP designs 2-3 months ago)

...and I thought making a Flash landing page is far more difficult than making it in HTML.

Shouldn't that have tipped you off? Oh well, this is a mistake that you will definitely never make again.

And I hate flash sites too.

Flash can be a real bitch if you don't know what your doing, and it can be a real bitch if you only have HTML experince, but if you can learn it you can do some really amazing things with Flash based sites which you cannot do with HTML, PHP, or other languages, well you could but it would take you about 6 years longer then it should.

Hey, not my mistake... The boss'.
I just have to wear it because it means our sales won't be as good, which means my commissions won't be. *sigh*

Anyone of you LP designers here any good with Flash?
If so, what are your rates, cause I might be sourcing quotes if I can convince the boss...
I had trouble tweening the red square into a blue circle, let alone anything like parent scripting and Lingo.

I'm just waiting for GPU accelerated flash that really works (just around the corner), and I'm sure that Google are as well after the launch of Lively.

If Adobe master that, together with decent Flash SEO capabilities, then I'm sure Flash has a good future.

:R:

If done right flash sites are awesome. Problem is not many are...but is that any different then now with HTML, PHP, and so on?

Time to dust of my flash skills.

We dislike all flash sites... especially the ones that still have those STUPID "intros" ughh

But lets face it, our opinions don't have any real effect on what happens, because we look at it everyday, we know much more about websites and usability than anyone else in other non-internet marketing/design/dev related industries. So of course its overkill to us. But people who use it as their site or intro, are like kids in a candy store, they are just mesmerized by all the sparkly shiny crap. Its probably the same as why people STILL think using super bright neon signs on their stores... even though they are closed at that time of night. Its pure overkill, but they think differently, that's all.

Good move though, and seriously.. ABOUT FUCKING TIME! But you can still get flash sites indexed and ranked using WH SEO even. Its just a lot more on-page SEO work, and tougher to work out, as you really need to edit it by hand, or at least go over it by hand before it's considered "good to go".

yeah i have a website up now called whipality. do a search in google for whipality and you will see that my half-ass flash map is indexed twice. how this could be beneficial is beyond me. seems like some more seo hype
