fedor vs. silva tonight.. 10pm et showtime.

Looking back at the Rogers, Werdum and even the start of AA bout you could see Fedor wasn't invincible.

Saying that, his standup is still legit and Silva won Via thick Skull.

You could say the same thing about Silva and Sonnen. But then Silva KOs via front kick to the face and his the man again.

Fedor is just getting old, and I think his management helped bring him down. His not a Striker to begin with. I haven't seen him try to take a guy down since he starting fighting for M1. Those fuckers helped lay him to rest IMO.

But just like Mike Tyson he will be the man forever. To fight the best in the world and not lose for 28 fights in a row is something very impossible. Most mma and ufc fighters know this, thats why so many respect him.

End of an era! Fedor still retires as the greatest heavyweight of all time. But age catches up with every man eventually.

I will never forget some of those legendary battles especially with Cro Cop, Nogueira, Randleman, and Fujita during the Pride days. Man I miss Pride, those shows were amazing.

Fedor is only 34, the argument that hes getting old is only partially true.

Well, age isn't everything.. I'm not a big MMA guy and I'm not sure if Fedor has had what you can call an extensive career with many hard fights etc.. but 34 + having a ton of fights over a decade+ compared to 34 and being a newbie are 2 totally different things.

A. Silva is 2 years older than him and has almost the same fights and is doing pretty well Dan henderson is 6 years older than him and still doing fine (has a title shot at light heavy weight later this year). The list could go on, I'm not trying to take anything away from Fedor he's one of the best ever but the age excuse is just that an excuse. The sport has changed and the last generation of fighters that didn't evolve are falling behind you can see it all across the board from Strikeforce to UFC.

Yea that is definitely a big factor. There are always exceptions to be sure, Randy Couture being one of them. But you will often see a big drop off in a fighters performance when they hit their mid 30's, especially when they have had a long fighting career.

A lot of these older guys didn't just compete in MMA either. Fedor was a world combat Sambo champion, which is basically full contact fighting, for many years. Mirko Cro Cop fought about 20 K-1 kickboxing fights and 40 amateur boxing fights before he even started MMA.

All of that eventually takes it's toll. Fedor just didn't seem to have the same quickness or agility he used to. I think he can still hang with the best, but no question, he is not the same fighter anymore.

Don't take anything from Silva though, he was fantastic.

I could see Fedor going to 205.
But I think its time to hang em up. I dont want to see a repeat of Chuck Liddell. Its true a body can only take so much. Plus I just dont think he wants it anymore. He has his God, Family, Friends, made a ton of Money and likes the quite country lifestyle.

As for pride vs new mma. Silva, Shogun, Machita, Rampage are all from the pride age, and still kicking ass. They will all pass the torch one day, younger more hungrier blood is coming.

Silva is well known for his steroid use and he had about 50lbs on Fedor. Dude has the heart of a champion, no quit in him despite having that gorilla lay on him for 5 mins pounding on his eye.

Back in his prime Fedor could hang with these talentless juice monkeys but not any more, Strikeforce's "in house" drug testing policy is a joke and the whole industry knows it. Fuck Strikeforce! Hope Fedor retires, bails on his contract, and fucks them over. Overeem (also a well known juicer) will likely win the grand prix now that Fedor is out.

I don't think Fedor is going to let himself go just like that. He's not going to retire.
I still think that he would'v won the fight if it wasn't for his eye injury.
If anybody doubt this, pls check his other fights and than comment.
Pizdjec Silva just got lucky :)

not sure if i would take it that far, but if fedor connected on that initial punch at the beginning of round 2, everyone would be praising him now.

Juicer? No way! I thought he got that big from eating that delicious Dutch chocolate :)

I'd have to agree, Silva looked tired and he's not exactly known for his stamina.

Bad eye or not, I'm sure Fedor would have gave him a run for his money in the 3rd.

LOL Reminds of Barry Bonds and his transformation over the years.

agree, my dream is for him to come back and beat both their Brazilian asses, starting with "Silva" (who was so surprisingly fukin' fast btw)

It looks like Fedor's gonna be the #1 alternate for the HW GP.

That Strikeforce card was great, can't wait for Ubereem to smash on Werdum for beating him up when he was simply skinny "never do weights when I was at 205" Overeem.

If anybody hasn't caught Overeem's K-1 WGP run, you should. His fight with Spong was awesome, the rest were just beatings, though Saki was giving it to him until he got injured. Even though it wasn't the hardest run, still impressive beating 3 top strikers in one night.
