I don't care if they are illegals or legals. The law proposed by Arizona is stupid and racist. I agree that the government needs to do something. But giving the police the power to profile based on your skin color and appearance is not the solution, is a step to go decades behind. Most of you don't care a shit and always just refers to the law and law and blah blah blah, even when most here in this forum don't care about the CAN SPAM law or FTC Laws. They use the law only for their benefit.
Anyway if you are white you will never understand what feels to be from a country where 90% of the population thinks you are an illegal. I can imagine living in a country where I need to have proof of my citizenship always wherever I go and If I don't have the proof with me I can go to jail just because I'm brown. It's retarded.
Ferris, the Federal government has been trying to resolve this issue since 2004.
The Republicans have simply voted no, and presented no alternative ideas.
The bottom line is that we need Republicans to take constructive action. If they don't like Democratic proposals, they should make their own.
But they don't. They're playing politics. This AZ bill is just an attempt to capitalize on voter frustration to play more politics.
No it's not. As was illustrated by various experiments (the Stanford prison being the most famous), people act differently when in different capacity. When it comes to abuse of power, it's not about the pre-existing mentality of an individual.
So it's not about some "bad apples" or whatever the fuck other terms used to justify problems within a system.
If you take a bunch of decent white people and give them the means to exercise authority based de facto on race, they'll become racist while exercising that authority. The extent may vary from one individual to another, but the problem won't be because of a "few racist cops". All cops will become racist simply by design.

As I see it there are really only two options.
1. Enforce actual immigration laws, or develop new ones to remove illegals en-mass from the country.
This has an obvious drawback as we will have to commit a huge amount a resources while fighting large groups of people claiming racism. It actually turns into a worse disaster than it has to be, because if it doesn't benefit you it's obviously wrong.
2. Create new laws and programs that will allow for easy and rapid acceptance of illegals as citizens.
The obvious drawbacks being is I know not of a country that would ever do this. Why should we let them become citizens? Can I go to Mexico and automatically become a citizen? I doubt it, so it's really a double standard.
The benefits would be tax dollars coming in, and a better grip on population counts.
So in the immortal words of System of a Down, "You can't stay neutral on a moving train!"
Maybe the true answer is somewhere in the middle ground. By allowing for a temporary citizen type application that will give them time to become full on citizens while still collecting taxes. Although the danger being if you give them an inch, they will try and take a yard eventually.

The mere notion of temporary citizenship is ridiculous. How would the oath sound?

What you are describing is called permanent residency. And that's how things are currently implemented. You have to become a permanent resident, and remain in good standing for a long while, before you can even apply for naturalization.
On a more general note, a lot of problems could be solved if people actually spent some time studying how things work now before forming their opinion about what should be done.
Immigration, taxes, health care, foreign policy... whatever the topic, the biggest problem is the ignorance of the voters.

We can't even pass legislation that requires American citizens to show their fucking driver's license (or comparable ID) when showing up to vote, because liberals and the ACLU will have a seizure that "yours rights are being violated".
