FB increasingly unreliable?

I started advertising on FB a few weeks ago, considering it a massive source of traffic and an obvious next step to try to run affiliate campaigns. I've been extremely disappointed.

I think I run fb campaigns fairly by the book. Multivariate testing, a couple dozen different versions of the ad to start with eye-catching images, weeding out ads with shitty CTR. I regularly manage to create ads across multiple offer types with 0.1 - 0.15% CTR, which I understand to be very good for FB.

The result?

1. Inability to get volume, even when I have high CTR ads targeting 1M+ people and a $1k / day budget. I can't manage to spend more than $80 a day using CPC.
2. Shitty conversion rates across the board.
3. Switching to CPM on high-CTR ads to get volume ALWAYS kills my CTR very quickly and results in $1 CPCs.

I'm more than willing to accept that I suck at facebook, and even suspect that's the case. But seriously, what the fuck? The fact that I can't even get volume (without switching to CPM which kills my CTR and wastes money) makes me think facebook hates me.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm starting to think all these people who claim to make money with facebook are full of shit :costumed-smiley-087

(Yeah that's a musketeer, what about it?)

I also just realized my title isn't very descriptive given that I'm new to FB. I should have called it something like "facebook sucks." my bad.

Be more descriptive. How are your impressions distributed? Do they just stop after a certain while? Or do you never get good volume to begin with.

Oh and .1 - .15 isn't that great. For me it's usually the bare minimum for a good campaign.

How much have you tested CPM? I almost always have better results with CPM. in most cases my effective cpc drops by half.

Try smaller targeted demos via keywords.

You know, like twilight IQ test (cloaked), female demo 13 to 24, US only, CPM bidding

keywords: robert pattinson, edward cullen, twilight, stephanie meyers, taylor lautner, kristin stewart, bella swan, jacob something

Split test at least 10-20 appropriate images/adcopy

Not rocket science.

P.S. my girl likes twilight, im not gay thx

P.S. you may need to cloak it to get it on facebook

I have the same kind of problems getting volume. I use fbadsmanager to make 100+ ads but only 10 or so ever get any serious volume so it's not really split testing. Even when paying upwards of $.55 per click.

Could be too many ads competing against one another, I'm not sure.

My demo was 2 mil when I was hitting it and had ads with .3 CTR. And that was with a much smaller demo than 13-24.

Also, try the older demo's, they worked better for me.

I don't know, bro... First AND last names of all the Twilight stars? Something is real fishy here...

Or he did proper market research? Or possibly used the suggested keywords?

Bid higher.

I'm having the same kind of problems..

I had an ad I created 4 days ago on FB, started at 0.05 CPM, ramped it a 0.07 the next day as I was seeing no traffic, than raised at 0.08 the same day and got a great amount of traffic for a good CTR and made a superb ROI - the next day I stopped the campaign because I had a server problem and since I restarted this ad I'm getting almost no traffic, my CTR is now at 0.05 and it sucks... I now raised my bid to 0.10 and its not much better (that's international traffic by the way)

I now just created 100 ads similar to the one that got accepted, all refused, is there a way to reapply quickly without having to "create a similar ad"?

Those are some generous tips, AffApprentice.

Be careful with the cloaking though. I've been banned for cloaking stuff that wasn't rebill. They detected the script and whacked me.

FB considers mobile offers as rebills, so they'll be looked at after they're approved and running. At least that's what the affiliates@fb refer to it as.

"switching to CPM on high-CTR ads to get volume ALWAYS kills my CTR very quickly" - Volume kills your CTR? Well no shit.

I've tried to explain to people before the secret to making some good money on FB isn't getting .05 cent clicks and .10 EPCs with huge volume. Make ads that have 1.00 EPCs and settle with CPCs of .50 and you will make a shit ton more money. If you think but hey that's the same ROI why should it matter if I can make it up with volume with the .05 cent clicks, well you are a retard that doesn't think big.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, especially you FerrisHilton. Believe it or not, I ran that EXACT FREAKING campaign targeting those exact keywords (plus some others), though I was only targeting 13-15 females and audience came out to around 100k people. I used "light cloaking" in that I redirected directly to the offer page (which I understood from my AM to be compliant) instead of going through my affiliate link, since I needed to avoid a country IP address redirect fucking things up during approval.

Facebook disapproved my ads (as always giving no detail at all), so I emailed them and a couple days later they get back to me saying there's a pop up on the page. I open the page in 3 different browsers and there is NO POPUP, so I tell them that and ask them to check again, and they respond saying "there's a popup, fix the page." I gave up at that point and moved on, maybe I need to retry with "heavy cloaking."

So long story short, that's one campaign that never got off the ground.

miketpowell, when i say switching killed my ctr, i mean the ad went from getting .15% CTR (with enough clicks for me to know it wasn't a fluke) to .01% CTR. this has happened a couple times now.

you need to keep fine tuning your efforts in all areas - you'll get it

The solution to my problem is either this or giving up on fb. I'll give it another month or so...

Don't listen to your AMs about FB compliance. But yeah, FB has done the same with me and swear they're either fucking with me or they aren't actually looking.
