Why anyone would use any other registrar is beyond me.

Why anyone would question that is beyond me too. There's a saying that goes
something like "different strokes for different folks".

Some want to be able to call Go Daddy for support, others like registrars such
as NameCheap who don't upsell like hell on their web sites, etc.

One reason is if you're a domainer looking to sell your domain some of those registrars give a ton of extra exposure on their domain sales sites. This can make the $30+ domain reg easily worth it.
