Hard to say. I went from two 17" CRT monitors to one 19" LCD monitor. I prefer the LCD, in the future I might upgrade to two LCD's, but I haven't had the need yet.

i'd like being able to design/code at the same time or being able to look at two files at a time whilst programming.

I have 2 19" LCD monitors. Got software running to make the screen spread across both as one huge monitor.

Absolutely love it and would never go back. You can have so much more open than before. A good example, web dev software on one screen and browser on the other. Do work, without having to pull up other screens you see the changes there and then

If you can, get two monitors you'll love em. I was originally using my Toshy laptop with 15" monitor and then added a 17" LCD monitor to that and I thought that was excellent. Now I'm using a 20" Imac and want twin 30" Cinema displays on a G5... that would be awesome.

Thanks for the feedback guys, hey Nathan, how much is the cost ? and what LCD type ?

Thanks

Just check the hot deal sites for a Dell sale, happens all the time. Hard to beat their LCD deals

As for having multiple monitors it definitely helps me be more productive. There've been studies that quantify how much it helps and even a recent interview with Bill Gates had him saying how he uses multiple monitors :)

I agree, really unless programming is the core of what you do and the main way you make money, duals are a waste of money.

You only have 1 set of eyes... I mean come on is it really worth $xxx to $xxxx to you to be able to see more than one program at a time? That's what tabbed browsing is for. In windows there is the task bar at teh bottom to easily switch from program to program..

When I was doing more programming I personally found it better to just buy a laptop and place it on my desk. All my PCs are networked and share folders so for me it's even better than having 2 screens. It's 2 PCs!

I use 2 monitors in my home recording studio and one of them broke the other day - it amazing how much i had got used to having 2 - i say go for it - im def getting another one

I use 2, one 21" and one 20" and in a few months I'll probably buy another one.
Having 2 monitors is useful, there's even some statistic about increased productivity.

I've got 2 19" CRTs. Huge increase in productivity, and I was using a virtual desktop manager before that.

i used to have 2 different sized monitors - i use to find it really annoying - one being smaller than the other
so if you buy 2 make sure they are the same size
