Dollar Bill Redesign?! WTF

No no fuck this, stick with the good ol green design.

All this monopoly color scheme is lame.

I like how the tinfoil hats all think this is actually going to happen. Chill out, folks. That being said...

Oh, and what's up with this one? Different sizes for each bill? You'd have to fold your money just to fit it in your wallet.

Different sizes of bills would serve for two purposes: avoiding confusion (blind or preoccupied) but more importantly, to fight counterfeiters - it's common for them to bleach lower denomination bills and print higher dominations ($20s+) on them so that they pass the currency marker test. It would be pretty difficult to pass a $20 on a piece of paper the size of a $1.

You'd also have to redesign the ATM business.

All the ATMs I go to dispense $20s. Sometimes I see the odd $10 bill.

Cost to print one bill (regardless of denomination) varies between 0.042 and 0.141 depending on the source you read. I think I heard on a Discovery channel show it was closer to the 0.042 mark, but I don't remember what they quoted.

Who the fuck carries cash anymore? Why don't you just take a piece a paper, walk into a gas station bathroom, wipe the inside of the toilet bowl with it and put that in your wallet? Probably more sanitary and possibly more valuable.

And all the counterfeiters in the world jump on this thread posting that the US should keep it's currency green (one color).

Bogus US bills are a BIG problem in Africa and Central Asia. Hell, the Canadian Mint is doing a big business printing other countries' currency because of counterfeiting issues.

Laser gravure looked like it would solve this problem about 5 years ago but the technology died so since then the currency counterfeiters have been in heaven.

How do you think North Korea is staying afloat?
