Do you show your friends?

Do you let your friends see your web sites? If you don't share, then they will get pissy and act like you are rude, but if you share, then they might copy your methods. Where do you draw the line?

I show my friends, then my site spread round the school, and ppl tried to 'click the ads' to help me, lucky the school blocks the ads so no one ever did.

No. Just the wife and she forgets the domain names anyway lol. She likes the affiliate cheques though

I thought it seemed like risky business. In my opinion, even telling your family might not be the wisest move. After all, they might decide to "help you out" and click your ads just like Dave's friends did.

Nope, don't show them anything. One of my friends knows about it, the rest wouldnt' care even if I showed them.

Everyone thinks i'm some kind of freak (don't think in a bad way....), that i make websites, but they know i make money, and they think thats pretty cool.

I don't really show my friends (they do know I have sites) but I do discuss it with my family.

lol, we're all freaks here arent we  ;)

I usually just say "I've got lots" and leave it at that.

Previously, I've shown my sites to people and they told their relatives about me, and tried to get me to work for them for wayyyy too little money... things like that.

dave the only thing that matters in the end is the number you see when you look at your bank account balance.

it ain't like a "what a freak, grab the pitchforks", it's more like a "thats cool, but kinda scary that you know all that", and then "bah, i can't believe your making more than me and I work 6 hour shifts at maccas" :p

I've got a friend that is a partner (handles the customer service, shipping) on a site with me that I tell a lot to. It helps to get me goin' to have somebody to share my excitement with on a new SEO technique, or design I've come up with. I also tell my gf everything that runs through my head. It's nice to have somebody to share it with.

Oh, and i have a friend who i tell practically everything too, he doesn't understand the technical side, but he ain't dumb so he gets the jist of it...definitely is nice to have someone to listen to ur ideas

Oh yes if you make websites then you must be able to make one for freinds of friends for about $nothing.

I tell them if I think they might find a site interesting, but that's about it. It's a lot to explain to most people, and then as lots of people already said you have the people who want to help by clicking on the ads. And then you have to explain why they shouldn't do that.

I just say I'm a website developer if anyone asks me what I do, it seems simplest.
