Do Internet Marketers Need A Degree?

No, chances are you will still need the degree unless you start off by doing phone sales at an "seo firm" for $7 an hour and work your way up. But if you have the slightest skill/knowledge when it comes to internet marketing you should be able to make at least $200 per day which is more than what most firms will pay their top guys (unless you're doing major projects for Fortune 500 companies)
wot?

Of course, my alumni friends swear by the college experience and wouldn't trade it for anything. I don't see anything wrong with a 4(+) year party. Just keep your expectations realistic.

The experience is one you will never forget; but coming out of the 4th yr now i'm about 20k in debt ... and that is about the avg amount (in the UK at least).

Yes I have a shiny certificate that says Donace LLB, just need to see if its THAT or my experince that gets me a job ;)

Degrees are only mandatory in the 'this guy has my life in his hand so he better know what the hell he is doing' industry... such as doctors pilots and engineers etc....

If you're looking for a job in the industry, it's hard enough getting a job with experience and a degree at the moment, so you'd be at a disadvantage being 19, with no degree, and only a year of your own experience.

Your better off working for yourself these days, I'm currently in a four year course to get a bachelor of commerce (Marketing Major) out of the way.

Why? Well it sure as fuck isn't to go work for someone else for $4 bucks per hour, monday to friday 8-5 doing bitch work. I'm doing it so I can advance my own set of skills to continue working for myself for the next 10,000 years.

After being your own boss for 6+ years its almost impossible to think about going to work for someone else, its just so damn nice to have all the freedom, not to mention the fact that you can monitor your entire online company via the iPhone no matter where you are in the world (Well as long as you got cell service).

So do you need a degree, fuck no, should you go out and get one is all up to you.

You don't need a degree unless you want one. But being able to tell your kids about college stories could be cool.

I got into college without a HS diploma, and I started working full time still 30 credits shy of my BA. I took 10 years to finish that BA -- and only did so because I wanted an MBA (didn't actually get one -- came to my senses first!)

You can get a 'good' job without a degree. But you have to be creative, work connections, and then prove yourself. Without a degree, once you have a 'good' job, you may find yourself stuck at your employer. That's because you've proved yourself in your current environment - moved up the ranks and gotten commensurate pay. However, any hiring manager, at another firm, looking at your resume usually won't be able to stomach the risk that, if they hire you, and it doesn't work out --- they'd be raked over the coals for having hired someone so obviously unqualified. If you have all the standard issue requirements -- ie. a degree and related job experience -- then if it doesn't work out, well then -- "these things happen".

I'm 21 and work full time as a software programmer.. without a degree. While you don't need one, most places believe that piece of paper actually means something about your abilities. Not having a degree just means you have to work harder than the other guy who probably knows less than you.
