I notice it seems every few days my AM will contact me asking me to promote a certain offer.

Now, the only problem is, I notice every offer they present to me its an "hot offer" "super hot offer". "Solid offer".

But then when i ask them about stats on the offer, they seem to beat around the bush.

Do you think they are just being pressured by the high ups at the network?

I don't think that I've ever tried an offer that was pitched to me in that fashion. Stick with the affiliate managers that will tell you things straight up, with no sugar-coating from up above. They'll let you know what offers are really working, and won't waste your time with offers that are "hot hot hot!"

The problem with alot of AMs is either : They don't know anything about AM , or they're just calling you to find out why you're not running traffic to them.

In business, it's important to contact people you work with to make sure everything is OK and to improve on business. Having said that , many managers don't really know how to help develop one's business in AM, so they just tell you something is "Hot".

Now , not too long ago , a network sent me a series of emails about their new "latest, greatest offer in XX Vertical". I just so happened to know the advertiser on that offer, and asked him how much that network was doing in volume........He told me that they had sent a total of 20 leads over the past 2-3 weeks (And some guys are doing 100+ a day direct with him). So , what a network says , and whether they really know anything about it are 2 different things.

If you start pulling in good number at a network, somehow they can remember you months down the road. I changed my phone number and AIM name once already, it gets extremely annoying having 10+ assholes contact you on a daily, leaving voice mails, text messages and so on.

You all are describing the difference between a good AM and poor AM. As an AM it is good to be hungry, but not at the expense of pushing a low converting offer and costing your affiliate a lot of money, time and energy spent.

It is the affiliates who are flying this plane and it takes a good AM co-pilot to help navigate, and advise what paths to take. Would you rather guess and test which offers are working or be able to hit up Chewbacca and ask him which ones are showing the highest EPC’s, which offers have the highest conversion rate.

Our industry is a small one and everyone knows someone through someone else. What I have seen, AM’s who are all about The Hustle begin to develop poor names and reputations in the industry. You cant hate on an AM for following up with you after a show, where you were popping bottles together, but you can hate on them for not getting the picture after you did not respond after the first 10 messages left.

If you do not trust your AM to lead you towards the right offers, let the network know, they will not want to lose the biz, and see if they can hand you off to someone that is better suited to your needs. If you are being harassed, answer one of his calls and let him know about the restraining order you will be placing against them.

lol same here

Its hard to find good AM's to trust. Most will bullshit you to no end. When you do find the good ones stick with them and treat them right because they are the ones who help you move your business to the next level.

Case in point, one of my AM's hooked me up with an offer that a friend of his ran that was completely outside his network, so he had no commissions. I was able to make a lot of profit on that deal. Goes to show what building good realtionships can do. I even sent the AM a percentage of the profits afterwards as a thank you even though it was not required.

The AM that hits you up only when he/she really does have a good offer running and lets you know is the AM that will have that traffic tested immediately vs. the AM that tells you to run shitty offers and you don't believe them so you don't run anything they tell you.

just put them in their place. don't be afraid to tell them you don't want to give them your landing page URLs/creatives/traffic sources as they do not legally have the right to (unless they somehow think you are frauding them) be straight with them. tell them exactly what you need and they will understand that business is business even if things get tense. if you have some decent volume with a network, that gives you even more control. use it but don't abuse it and both you and your networks will be happy :)

all my AM's been real nice, but there's a clear distinction between the bullshitters and the non bullshitters.

i do the majority of my revenue is run with the non-bs ones. they're also the ones who i end up meeting in person at affiliate summit/adtech, and discussing strategy in length, legal, etc. they're my boys.

the bullshitters i don't even try to meet at conferences/don't really want to talk to. many i just ignore now.

You hit it right on the money. Its the same for AM's in networks as well as those working for the merchants.

I've been on both sides of the fence and it can be hard for a new AM to resist the push to sell the offers.

I have one offer where the merchant wants me to do the hard sell. Instead when asked about stats I say that for that offer it varies from affiliate to affiliate. We have some that close a sale every 30-50 clicks and others that can send hundereds of clicks without a single sale for the exact same offer.

i like that AM's hit me up, maybe they have offers that i don't know about if i have gotten complacent.

usually they don't, but sometimes they do.

thats odd to me. different traffic sources? you cant really compare email traffic to say a flog.
