Delete Facebook Account?

Okay, does anyone know the secret to actually getting a facebook account deleted? I followed the instructions here a few weeks ago and got an e-mail from FB saying my account would be deleted April 3rd... Well, today I got an e-mail saying, "welcome back to facebook".

I've even sent goatse to my friends and had them report me in an attempt to get rid of the damned thing. This is seriously annoying.

I'm deleting all of my accounts on these stupid sites (fb, myspace, etc), because I did a test a few weeks ago where I ignored them all and didn't log in once. My productivity probably increased ten fold. Those sites are just giant time sucks and I encourage anyone who makes a living online to delete them now.

But facebook just won't let me go... Even though my account was supposed to be deleted (and deactivated), people were still able to send me messages on the site, which of course I just had to go read.

+rep to whoever tells me how to successfully remove the facebook tumor.
 


Why not just use a the $100 Visa coupon to get yourself perma-banned? I've tried de-activating it before... but facebook being the crack it is, just keeps coming back!
 
Whoa that's odd did not know they made it so hard to delete. My suggestion would be to change the contact email to a random one and have a friend change your account password and email password?
 
What the hell... Is there a facebook employee on WF that helped me out? I received this e-mail an hour after posting this:

Hi,

We have deleted your profile information and removed your email address from our login database. Let me know if you have further questions.

facebook is fucking creepy, but it's an excellent stalking tool.

Speaking of creepy, does anyone know how their matching algorithm works? You know, the thing on the right side that suggests you know these people and should invite them to your group? I know they can match up schools, associations, jobs etc with the profiles but my wife's account (I don't Facebook) suggested some people we met while taking a cruise and nothing in our profiles even comes close to matching us.

We were kind of creeped out.

They probably tagged your wife in the Cruise pics. Just a guess.
 
I heard that they keep all data in their servers, even after deletion. Maybe I'm referring to the old terms of service - not sure.

I just read an article about how its nearly impossible to get deceased people removed from it, and how families tried for months before they could get their deceased relative removed...

Crazy shit.
 
I'm on day 2 of not logging into FB at all. Its like breaking a really tough habit. No patch or gum for it either. But I agree man, these types of sites are just giant time sucks if you give in and don't limit your time on them early on. Hell, WickedFire can be like that too if you're not careful.

I'm about as ocd as they get and had to ban myself from myspace/facebook years ago. Best thing for me ever. Of course people that are well balanced don't get this because they don't understand addictive traits. now i log on every once in awhile and stalk through my girl's account lol.

my rule is don't log in to anything that isn't related to your biz. Wickedfire is fine because you only stand to gain really, it keeps your mind on the game and let's you blow off steam when you've been grinding.
 
Since there are some FB people reading this, can you send me an email about why my account was disabled for 24 hours with no reason? It has been re-enabled but I'd like to know why it was disabled in the first place.
 
I used to login to FB all the time when I had a full-time job, I also read news sites and daily webcomics.

Quitting my job meant I wasn't fucking bored out of my brains working for someone else all day, so I no longer needed to be distracted by all that stuff.
 
The idea will be soon copied in to an Ebook : "How to delete you account on Facebook permanently".
