For veracity's sake let me disclose something about my site. I discovered something curious about my site as I was researching my site's competitors on blekko, majesticseo, ahrefs, and serpIQ. I discovered that my site was aged and that it still had links sticking to it (that's why it shot from 168 to 66 after the honeymoon spike *facepalm*). Apparently the previous owner was trying to rank for a much more expensive keyword. I saw about 34 backlinks from various blogs, feeders and 2.0 on ahrefs. Blekko and majestic both say it only has 4 linking to it with various PR's (the highest being 4 but I couldn't see it anywhere on the site so I'm guessing that it's from commenting). I pinged all of the 34 using bulk ping (hopefully this does something). I also attempted to check out the old site using wayback machine but it didn't have a snapshot. Hopefully, the previous didn't do anything shady.
*If this is considered outing please let me know I'm still unclear as to the boundaries of outing.

1. You do not need 40 pages of content to get rolling, if you keep dripping content and it gets to 40+, fine, but it is not necessary for an easy niche/keyword.
2. You say you are limited on funds. I would then advise you write your own content and pay for links. You can also do backlinking yourself for free.
If I only had $20 to spend I would drop $20 on Red_Virus before I dropped $20 on content. It takes a lot less time to write that 1000 words than to do 100 manual bookmarks. This is not to say that you need to drop the $20 on Red_Virus, it is an example. You can drop $4 or $8 on other bookmark providers if you want, just get something out there..
It's been 10 days. The sites should be up, you should have at least 1000 words on the front page, have dripping content posts in que, and have some basic backlinking already complete.

Dripping content already. 1K ~ every week. Bought from 3 providers. 2 are good one crapped out (ordered 4 from him, he ran and I didn't get a refund).
I would but I also know from experience that writing is not cost effective for me. I'm doing manual backlinking as well (One of my sites, not included in the case study went from 90 to 205.).
I bought $6 50 SBB from a provider already.
Site has 1K words and has old links sticking on it.
Re-read LukeP's post and eliquids EMD case study and see if you are missing anything.
Also, check the source code when going to your site, are the H1, H2, etc tags as you want them to be?

I say to do it this way because some people get confused in WP or confuse WP themselves with plugins etc. Checking what the site is actually feeding to the end user is a great way to check your work.

Also, check the source code when going to your site, are the H1, H2, etc tags as you want them to be?

The reason there hasn't been too much talk about 2.0 is I've had to restrategize. Apparently, "product" or "brand" + extrawords emd isn't a good long term strategy. I haven't been c&d'ed yet but other sites in my niche are going dark because they have the product name in the domain. I will still attempt to rank for the keywords but without the emd bonus (I registered a new domain for the site). FML.
DO NOT USE PRODUCT OR BRAND NAMES IN EMD's.
