If you're looking for a series to binge-watch and enjoy stories from the Old West, try Deadwood...

Three seasons.

Twelve episodes per season.

Fair warning: it was cancelled early.

I just finished watching it for the second time. It is excellent. Great storytelling with a fantastic cast. It also has the feel of authenticity (though you be the judge).

Here's a good chunk of the cast (I'm pulling images that won't give away anything from the series):

If you've watched Deadwood and it's been awhile, I highly recommend watching it again. I enjoyed it more the second time around because I had a better ear for the dialogue. It has an fascinating cadence.

If you're on Netflix, you have to watch it on DVD (HBO pulled their content from Netflix streaming). But if you're an Amazon Prime member, you can stream it for free through Prime Instant Video.

Here's the opening scene of the series...

I'll have to give it a try.

Shame they keep cancelling shows like this. Copper was another one that was superb, but only made it two seasons. Ripper Street was another, that fortunately got picked up by Amazon to do a third season, and 4th and 5th seasons have been announced Ripper Street to return for two more series of 'blood, guts and pocket watches' | Television & radio | The Guardian. Both are really good BTW, if you haven't seen them.

Just finished with the second season of Peaky Blinders. A third is in the works and should air Spring 2016 they're saying. Someone recommended it from here in another thread about movies, and I thought it was fantastic, so thanks! If you haven't watched it you really ought to. Only 6 episodes per season, but they manage to pack in a lot of story. I highly recommend it too!

Perfect. Downloading season 1 now. I have been binging on Westerns for a while now.

I recommend Klondike, a mini-series about the Yukon gold rush of the 1890's, if you haven't seen it. Different scenery from the usual Western but similar era/frontier culture.

Ballers > Deadwood

Ballers > Breaking Bad

S1 E2 Ballers > S1 E1 Ballers

Nothing > Ballers

What was the show that was renewed after many years quite recently? Not xfiles.
I am hoping this could be picked up some day :)
Although the main actor may be too old by then.

Deadwood was and is still my absolute favorite show, I even bought that DVD collector set, damn... I missed it... Gotta re-watch it now...

Deadwood is in the A+ league of the shows. Funny how people even compare it to B level shows like copper. Don't get me wrong, Copper is not a bad show, but far from top shelf.

Eh, if you're remarking on my comments, you'll note that I haven't even seen the show and wasn't comparing it beyond the fact it was cancelled early.

Going to give it a watch to see if it's as bad ass as you claim it to be. Cheers!

I liked season 1, but then got bored in season 2 because nothing seemed to ever happen. Maybe I'll give it another shot though and try to make it the whole way through next time.

Best series I've ever seen.

Best parody:

You guys just made me waste a whole lot of time...great show tho.

An yeah Peaky Blinders is awesome as well, I wouldn't put it exactly on the same level as Deadwood but it's still damn good.

Question (plot SPOILER):

I think I missed an episode somewhere, was Alma Garret really pregnant? I remember some kind of problem and the Doc wanted to cut her open and poke around in there, but I forget the result of that. Either she miscarried, had to abort because it was killing her, or she wasn't pregnant, something else wrong with her.

One thing funny I remember- Jewel in the kitchen was always cooking the shit out of some breakfast and making people eat it. They get the pork from Chinatown, same pigs they feed the dead bodies to, so a cocksucka eating breakfast gets shot, they carry the body to the pigs, later on come back and get those same pigs to bring back for bacon -> cycle of life.
