critique my redesign

original is louiswhitelaw.com redesign in progress is www.louiswhitelaw.com/wp

i've gotten advice from the owner of the firm, but at this point I feel like i could use some advice from someone who knows a thing or two about design & marketing - not a J.D. who's guessing.

thanks guys

The nexus template is nice, but it doesn't suit a law firm.
Also, make use of the shortcodes when formatting the pages. It's very basic they way you've done it. Just look at the working demo of the Nexus theme as an example.
At the moment the original design looks better.

I know every wordpress template bums slideshows, but I'd leave them off a law site and stay away from bright, bold colours.

Quick mockup, may help get you more feedback. But looking at it again, the design doesnt speak professional or law by any means. Its pretty clear template-like work.

I like it

Dude... you didn't redesign this...you installed a fucking theme. Nexus from Themeforest to be exact. And it's a default install at that!

congratulations on your deductive reasoning skills. I'm glad to see you read the thread and left me some constructive criticism.. oh wait... FUCK YOU

The people image has to go, they are all different sizes and looks kind of goofy. I would just use the About Us group pic, unless they only want certain attorneys on the front.

The phone number is gray on darker gray, may want to make the number white, so it can be read easily.

FOX news was at the top of their old site, is that an instant credibility thing you may want to add.

I am assuming the goal is for them to submit a form submission, you may want to consider adding Get a Free Evaluation buttons that go to a form.

The whole law firm image is photoshopped, badly, very bad. person 1 to person 2 (left to side). Unless he is a giant and she is a short, and came back from vacation with an extreme tan... that's bad. Let me not even talk about the pixels, but the lighting itself is off. Shadows are being casted in different directions...

Just out of curiosity... why would you out your client... on THIS FORUM? What if you pissed of some noob or other person on this forum in the last couple of months or so... do you understand the consequences of what could happen? At least hide it in the design section, and not STS where everyone is browsing... I would have sent a PM to people you respect, instead of this route.

I'm staying away from law firms now a days... last time I did something for a law firm, they ended up on American Greed, 2 years later...

Carry on...

1. The group photo of the associates looks cheesy and unprofessional. Get this photo redone.

2. The sign up form needs to be a permanent object on the page, not an object on the slider.

3. This is essentially a lead generation page, no? I'd consider hitting visitors with an incentived name/e-mail/phone number submit pop-up.
Since it's a law firm, you don't want to use any cheesy spammy copy like "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'VED BEEN SELECTED!"
Check with the firm to see if they'd be interested in running some legit daily or monthly special offers on reduced rates or something that are advertised on the popups.

I'd also suggest to the firm that they build a great newsletter that curates ORIGINAL, interesting content based on the first hand experiences of the law firm and sends a monthly blast to their subscribers.

Check-out popup domination for that.

looooool at that photoshopped picture. That guys head is huge and her hair hahahah

the site loads different images/slide sizes & animations depending upon whether the users using a mobile device, tablet, or desktop web browser.

Could you have picked a more shit way of doing it? Fucking inline styles, might as well just code with tables for layout.

Code isn't even worth fixing, start from scratch and have someone who knows markup do it. And while you're getting new markup, get a new design, and while you are getting a new design, have your client get a new freelancer.

It's like someone from DP coded it.
