Questions like this absolutely have to come with boobies. That's what I learned on my first day on this forum... Try PhpBB if you don't want to pay. Buy yourself some hosting that comes with cPanel and Fantastico and install it in seconds. After that promote.
 
Hahaha yeah now that I think of it the boobies would have lured in a lot more people than newbie alert:updown:


Have you had any personal experiences with phpBB? When I was researching it I found that a lot of people had security problems with it. I have also decided I don't have the loot for vbulletin:(. With these two things in mind, what do you guys think about SMF or yabb?

I saw a couple people mention SMF on here but the reason I bring up yabb is because highgrade-seeds.com uses it for their forum, check it out if you want.

You might want to get hosting in a "pot friendly" country like the Netherlands or somewhere that the police won't come steal your server out of the data center.
 
Choosing between yabb and SMF I personally would go with SMF. I did have a small Phpbb forum a long time ago but I'm no expert so can't tell you much about it's security.
