lol - don't tell jon you spammed it, spamming isn't looked highly upon :D

PS: just say you did ethical marketing, it sounds better. HEHE

UPDATE: I have 22 refs!! im 8 away!! SO EXCITED! You have no idea
I don't think Jon is the kind of guy who looks down on every form of spam, he's a part time black hatter himself I think.

If you hit 60 you get a choice of 1 piece of WickedFire apparel for free sent to you. As soon as they are printed that is..

All depends on how you look at it... I was at work the whole weekend and had access to very little resources! Tons and tons of stuff blocked at work.
Good point you have there.

I bet posting on here was more fun than work... lets hope your work doesnt block this site as well

Someone will die if this site gets blocked ;)

Still dont know how good this contest is doing for the site... over 330 members signed up to the forum that have not made one post. Thats a lot of Lurkers.... if you can even call them that. No idea on how many will even come back to the website.

Maybe add that they at least have to post?

Well I just hit 31 (when do we get added to the winner list?) but I am going to keep going just to safeguard against people not posting.

I had a very brief PM discussion with Jon about this, expressing my opinions that there is no way people in this contest can control what their referrals do, and he said as long as a few participate, it is ok.

VinSVT, even if people were required to post, it would be the same scenario... some people would post once or twice to meet the requirements and then quit.

All forums have lurkers, and the owner can only hope to convert more and more of them into active members over time.

I just think it will be harder to convert with a contest like this going on.

Nearly every referral will not post IMO.

Its just another reason I've stayed away from this. Nearly everyone on my AIM/MSN are not interested in things like this, but they are my friends so I could get them to sign up. But I know 100% for a fact they would never come back.

Im close enough to finshing the 500 post one anyways. :p

Sitepoint, which is very established, has over 47,500 users with zero posts, and I would guess that they have purged some memers in the past.

Additionally, they have over 64,000 useres with one post or less.

Now granted 47,500/121,000 is a lower percentage of lurkers than 330/480, but the members at sitepoint have had years to start posting... the new members here have only had a day or two.

I really think more will come around as time goes on as long as the discussion remains strong.

Edit: Your point about AIM/MSN is very valid. If that is what people are doing in this contest, then you are right, it is pretty pointless.

I was one of those members with zero posts for quite some time... I can see a lot more people signing up for that forum and just lurking.

They also never had a contest like this ;)

Responded before you added this...

If you scroll up, some of the winners so far are doing this.

I have tons of friends from MMORPG's I played... I could probably get 60+ referrals before the day was up... but not one of them would ever come back to this website.

If I were to do that, I just think it would be unfair for Jon to have to spend his time to give me such a great reward.

Well VinSVT, I think were kind of on the same page ;)

I agree that it is not fair to Jon to give bogus referrals, because the prize is great. However, I also don't think it is fair to the contest participants to have to make sure their referrals post.

Only one of my referrals is from AIM, someone from my "Internet" buddy group, and the rest are from forums.

Two of my forum referrals are from people that were already members here. After that happened, I promply added to my posts that I won't be accepting those types of referrals.

I am doing what I can to make sure I am referring real people, but making sure they are active members of the community is just out of my hands.

Of course you shouldn't be responsible for what your referrals do. But I would just hope that people here are good enough not to bring bogus people to this website...

Like they are not calling home to mom/dad telling them to sign up because they need a sweet website! :p

BeauCreative said:
I never thought of that one... *goes to get phone*

LOL :D
Hehe... "Hey Mom... I need a favor..."

I would not be surpised if someone did it! Jon is offering an amazing prize!

I was at work when I registered for this website... my shift had just started (Was working a 16 hour weekend shift at the hosptial) I saw the contest for posts and wanted to get started ASAP. So I called home to my GF and told her to get in my email (since its blocked at work) and had her click the confirm link for me. :p

Me too. I became a member because the forum always asked me to sign up when I wanted to do search or something like that, so I joined.

If you've hit 30 in this contest PM me please.
You can pick your own niche, or we can give you a list and you can pick one from there, but I think it would be better for you if you pick your own, so you can get a better sense on how to search for them in the future.

I think people (myself included) probably aren't sure that the niches they come up with will monetize well. I always have ideas... making money is another matter.

So when you say it's better to pick your own to get a sense of how to search for them, is there a criteria? Or just look for niches that seem like no one's explored yet and the advertisers and money will come later?
