Color shemes

Initially when designing I always make a mess out of the color schemes, it just doesn't seem to look right when I pick out the colors.

I tried the color schemer 5k tool but it seems like crap to me, can anyone recomend me a color schemer tool? or a better way to get colors for my layouts
 


I used to use color cache but then started using the colorzilla plugin for firefox and using the color picker function.
 
I used to use colormixer, but that sites been done for a few weeks, so I searched for awhile trying to find a new one. Glad others found it useful as well :)
 
I heard that using a dark background with white text isn't as good as a white background with dark text. I don't know why for sure, but it got something to do with your monitor's light rays and your eyes can't relax. Haven't seen any hard evidence or something but it came to mind when talking about colors here ;)

White text is just hard for some people to read I guess.
 
Either way though.. I'll think you'll be good as long as you dont go with some crazy red/green text or something that just hurts your eyes.

yeah, I dont think it's hard to pick decent coloring foryour site, although I regulary see sites where i'm about to have a heart-attack (at my age, yes! ;) )

The plugin for firefox (I can't think of the name) works best.
 
i usually use the same sets of colors, like blues, greens, with bits of pink seeing as my sites are generally some-what related, and i like to 'connect' my sites usin certain colours.

I do the same thing, depending on the market. I do this in blog networks, and in particular niches, but I don't do all of my sites the same.
 
I try and switch up the colors, although I tend to use similar. I think its pretty fun to fiddle with each color as well.
