Provincial inmates will be forced into work crews if the Progressive Conservatives are elected on Oct. 6, party leader Tim Hudak says.
Hudak said the work program of up to 40 hours a week will be mandatory.
“It’s time for criminals to give back to society,” Hudak told a news conference Thursday.
He said the days of provincial inmates watching HD TV and participating in yoga classes are over.
Hudak said they will be required to pick up garbage and trash along roadsides and clean up graffiti, among other things.
The program is projected to cost about $20 million.
“Our program will be the first of its kind in Canada in that it is mandatory,” Hudak said.
