Just a lil over a week ago I started getting this chronic chest congestion, basically can't really breath laying down, always coughing up phlem, any kind of activity such as getting up too fast or having to chase down one of the kids would result in a series of chronic coughing and gaging. Now my throat is sore as hell, I still cough like made especially at night, the right side of my body is all sore with muscle aches, and even with mucinex, loratramine (spelling? basically the shit claritin-D is made of) mixed with the blue tylenol liquid nighttime medication and doesn't seem to do shit cept maybe make the need to cough every 2 minutes instead of every 1 minutes.

Oh and get this, my pregnant wife had the same shit for 4+ weeks now, seriously thinking bout hitting up our doctor in the morning, or least take a visit down to urgent care before the two little ones ever have a chance of catching it. Been watching the kids mostly so she could sleep, and its really putting a drain on my ability to think, let alone stay awake long enough after they fell asleep to get some work done (especially when the coughing sometimes wakes one up).

But ya... illness fucking sucks.

Go to the docs, chronic bronchitus (spelling?) left untreated does nasty shit to ur lungs. My brother had coverage and got antibiotics when he caught it, sounds identical to what you're describing. I caught it the next week and didn't recover till like 3 weeks after.

Sounds like what I had (twice) this winter - go to the doc dude, sounds like you're to the point where you kinda NEED to go, especially if there are kids in the house.

Thats why its called fuckin illness. you are fuckin nuts wen u say ur wife had it since four weeks n she is pregnant?? What wer u doing?? playing wit urself??? You have to go to doctor n sit there till it fuckin cures..
I go to doctor if I masterbate 9 times n nthn comes out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually had the exact same thing about a month ago, was out of action for up to 4 weeks! Didn't go to the docs, figure my immune system would sort it eventually - which it did! Probably quicker to go get some meds though!

She was kind of hoping that too, especially since she can't take 99.99% of the meds while pregnant (or least was told not to by the doctors since she's considered 'high risk'), and there's nothing really they would prescribe, but since it hasn't gone away yet and the fact that I now got it, definitely needs to looking at.

Unless it's turned into to some sort of bacteria infection (which is possible) there's not much the docs can do for you. Also, consider, it's allergies/hay fever. For some reason colds are always rated over Allergies for severeness but every fucking spring and fall my allergies kick in and I'm out for the count. Coughing (cause of the nasal drainage) can't breath, head congestion. Usually there are some other signs too like clear mucus and itchy eyes, throat, ears. But not all the time. If it's allergies theres some OTC stuff you can take to ease the discomfort but you're pretty much going to have to wait it out. But if it is allergies that might be why your other OTC stuff isn't working.

Sorry to get gross, but what's your mucus look like?

She's right; yellow and/or bloody mucus indicates an infection. Clear and/or white indicates allergies. I'm plagued with allergies all year round, and my eyes are burning right now. Aaaaaaagggghhhh.

I used to get shots. Now is the height of rose fever season.

bronchitis is bacterial, not viral, so antibiotics would be indicated if that's what it is

I figure it's bacterial because it's often yellow in it's concentration and...

Also I know it is less likely to be allergies because I'm on a prescription of Claritin-D due to common issue with seasonal allergy (the pills are a lot smaller but contain the same amount of active ingredient when you get a prescription, and even cheaper than the OTC without insurance).

Yep probably time for them anTIBiotics, then.

There's antibotics that a pregnant woman can take too. Much less options but there's still some out there. I'm sure your dr will hook you guys up today.

I've had this problem too. I had to go on Prednasone (steroid), two inhalers, and an anti-biotic.

Prednasone sucks to take - it tastes terrible and I gained 5 pounds in a week. I lost it all pretty quickly. In any case the chest infection cleared up.

This thread makes me remember the worst 3 months of my life ... walking pneumonia (Dec-Feb '02)

chest cold >> bronchitis >> walking pneumonia

Fuck, coughed every 3 minutes ... when I'd start to doze off, I stopped breathing (literally) and woke up gasping for breath then coughed for 15 minutes straight. I was like a zombie for months. Work continued since it wasn't contagious and medicine could control the cough but I was literally worthless unless the tasks I was performing were monotonous. I'd sleep like 1 hour a night

cigarettes/bud tasted like shit so I stopped early on. Doc prescribed me medicine after inhaler after horse pill and NOTHING knocked it. Finally it was a combination of mucinex & nyquil in heavy doses that worked. You've got to sleep!

KB: Anything with a cough suppressant is evil as you cough everything up and rid yourself of it or that shit lingers and causes more problems.
