All the chats seem dead, and since *most* of the individuals on this site know about PCs , I wanted to run the setup I'm building past you to see if there's any MAJOR issues.

I know there's opinion about certain configs, but I'm looking for major conflicts or missing hardware. I haven't built a PC in over 10 years, so it feels all new again.



Mobo : ASUS P6T SE LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Video Card : EVGA 896-P3-1170-AR GeForce GTX 275 896MB 448-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

Processor : Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor <p>
Memory : CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8D

SSD Drive : PNY P-SSD2S064GM-RB 2.5" 64GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid state disk

Hard Drive (Secondary) : Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drives - I plan on upgrading this to 4 of the same models in the future with a RAID setup.

It would help if you linked to the product pages so we can see specs. That's where you can run into any issues - pin/interface compatibility, etc..
 
From what I can see it looks fine to me. I might go for a different case... I think the 193 is kind of goofy looking with the big side vent. I much prefer the cleaner looking 180 (different colours 181/182/183). Construction is almost identical, just cleaner with a few other cosmetic differences.

Antec - P180

The case will come with Antec fans, probably 3 of them, with variable speed switches, but I just put in 4 x 120mm Scythe 1900 rpm fans (Kaze-Jyuni) each capable of moving 110 cfm. If you get the 193 it looks like there is room for 6 or 7 fans in there.

The other thing I would do is get an external enclosure like the Drobo/Qnap for 4 x 1tb drives when you go to do that upgrade. 4 drives in the machine just causes loads of heat and I've had bus failure (read/write failure) problems because of that in my box.

Whoever you are ordering from should be able to tell you if you have any conflicts. You building it yourself or having the shop do it for you?
 
Are there any good websites that offer wizards of sorts to choose compatible products to custom built a PC? I also haven't built a computer in years, but I'm looking at possibly building a new one. There used to be a site, HardDrive.com, that had that functionality, but it's now just a parking page. Being able to go through step by step and choose only compatible hardware is a huge asset.

What site are you buying the parts from?

Thanks for the idea about the separate enclosure , that'd work good I think.


I'll try and get links for everything, and I'd be building it myself, I don't know if newegg has a configuration wizard , it would be quite nice if it did.

From what I can tell , this setup will be pretty cool overall , at the end of the year I think i may buy a second card (another 275) and run crossfire/SLI as I figure the prices should be down, and get the other 3 hard drives.

My hope is to be able to try out Crysis, and from what I can tell , the GPU/CPU setup should do it quite well.
 
If you are not going to play game with the computer, you are getting more than you need

for productivity, 2x 24 inches monitor plus a reliable high speed internet is all you need. Those fancy video card/ ram won't make your VIM and firefox run faster

I'm gonna be playing some games (I want to be able to run a few of the modern games in highest quality settings and HOPEFULLY have something that can run games for the next few years.

In addition to this i'll be doing HD video editing which atleast at this moment can't be done on my current system (and i barely have enough space as it is).
